Nervous transaction through eBay/Paypal.

 You're the one that paid over the odds for something that could be had cheaper else where the other day, not sure why you're endorsing eBay so much.

I just don't get the mass hysteria, which is completely unfounded.

Not sure what me being lazy and not checking around for prices has to do with thread though

If I took clear photos of the serial numbers that would protect me from this ?

You should, but ultimately it's never solid proof because how are PayPal to know you haven't substituted it with a different machine.

If you do decide to proceed with the PayPal transaction, transfer money to your bank account (make sure it clears), and deregister all credit cards + bank accounts on your PayPal account + keep a safe record of the RMSD receipt.

Advised from the previous thread to take pictures with your user id and a form of identification such as passport and driving license. Also, mark the laptop battery or internals with a UV pen and then take pictures of that. Finally, take pictures of packaging, and make sure it's packaged well.

Will they not still have a record of my bank/card details on file tho, even if I deregistrered them, hence could still take the money back if they felt like it ?

3 threads in less than 24 hours... I get what you mean about people always talk about the negatives things, but when it comes to eBay (and PayPal) there are much easier and potentially safer ways to sell high value expensive items. The concern and caution people are making in this thread is completely justified.

Depends, if they lock your account when you attempt to withdraw the £1000 while they investigate money laundering or any other spurious reason they give, then you couldn't do anything. But so long as you don't send the Mac until the funds are in your bank account you should be ok.

Personally I take the additional step of keeping an idle bank account for use with PayPal which I transfer the funds out of, incase PayPal decide to reverse it.

I definitely wouldn't be sending the Mac....maybe a big empty box, or do the old P-P-PowerBook thing!

A lot of the problems we get on here quite frankly is down to stupidity like not posting recorded or sending to a different address. Follow the rules and you'll be fine, simple as that. The recent picture one was s bit alarming but I'm sure a quick phone call would clear that up.

Not really, as proven by outcomes of threads posted on here. So factually incorrect. I sold a GFX last year where the buyer was forcing the 8pin CPU cable into the GFX, damaging the socket. Long story short PayPal sided with me.

Easy fix to this, refund money and ask him to pay it directly in to your bank account. There's no way I would take £1000 through paypal, the £34.20 fees alone would make it a no go. Especially when BACS is so easy and widely used these days.

Which buyer in his right mind would pay direct into to some random person bank account?
