A friend of mine built me a nice pc about a year ago thats been great. I'd like to have a go myself so i've bought myself a new case so i can do a swap over (first ever attempt). I'm thinking that if anything needs upgrading, now would be the time. Can you guys give me any suggestions on parts to upgrade (not wanting to spend hundreds).

Spec as follows:

CPU

Intel Core i3-2100

Memory

8GB DDR3 RAM 1333MHz

Hard Drive

1TB SATA2

GPU

Asus HD 6850

Motherboard

ASRock H61M-DGS

Power Supply

Alpine 750w

I might also add that i it mainly for gaming (counter strike GO)

Cheers

Badly made PSU's do more harm than good, coincidentally they have nothing good about them.

- They are ineffecient
- Badly made
- Cheap caps
- Half of them dont have decent protection devices
- Can damage your whole system
- Ripple and noise on the current

That PSU is cheap and nasty. I'm surprised he built you a machine with it, seeing as he is a friend :p
A i5 and a Z77 board might be nice, or an SSD will provide a big boost in general performance (however it will not affect your gaming performance). You could even upgrade the graphics card. Lot's of options to choose from.

At the minute i'm using a 32" Samsung tv (monitor is currently in transit to my new home). Usually i play at 1920 x 1080 on the monitor. I've probably got £100 at the minute for any slight upgrades.

430W will be fine.
As for the SSD, yes it would most likely require a fresh install, but is definitely worth it (I got one myself last month). However, I'd suggest waiting and getting a 128GB SSD instead, as after all your programs/OS is installed you will have about 20-25GB left.

1. 99% Yes.. i dont think the power draw from an i3 and 6850 will that high so you should be ok there. Would need someone else to verify.
2. 100% Yes

I rather a better quality lower wattage PSU than a cheap high wattage one. You can trust that your power source wont blow or just suddenly die one day, like i had happen to me when i first started building computers.

SSD for OS drive, also install your most used apps, very small apps and the odd game or two. You can use a mechanical harddrive for a secondary place to install stuff so you dont fill up your SSD with programs you dont use that often or are too simply to large. Just having the SSD as your system drive is a great boost in performance, things load much faster even the boot time itself can be 5 times quicker.

Great little case it looks cool, and i do like BitFenix i think they are an up and coming brand. Good choice.

Depends really on what GPU upgrade youre after in future. If it's too powerful for your CPU it will make the CPU bottleneck. It will still work but the GPU wont be running at its full potential and there might be some slight stutter on demanding games.
So basically you can do either really get one at a time or both together all depends really what the GPU will be and if the CPU can handle it.

Minimum PSU Wattage: 257 W
Recommended PSU Wattage: 307 W

Is the calculation i got for an i3 2120, 7850, Regular Mobo, 2 Sticks of DDR3, 1SSD, 1HDD, 1DVD and 4Fans. Seems it's not a very power hungry system if them figures are correct.
