Hi guys,

I'm tempted to sell my card and buy something a little more powerful, though arguably it's a great card I'm playing some games like Dishonored and there's a bit of lag I'd like to get rid of.

Any reasonable upgrades costing around 200-250 which would be decent/worth it?

Edit: specs are below in the signature with the exception of the CPU which is now a stock 4Ghz 8 Core Piledriver.

I'm not terribly unhappy with the performance, it's just in a few games I see a bit of lag, that's why I suspect I won't need to go much higher to see what I need.

Have you overclocked your 7850? If not you're missing out on a ton of free performance.

You get lagg in dishonoured with a 7850?

Its not your card then!

I played that max with a 285!

Id look to your CPU its most likely bottlenecking the card!

And now you have a piledriver and its still lag? This is why i havent been AMD cpu since the first Athlon lol.

Overclock the CPU to 4.8Ghz and see if that does the trick )

You will be lucky to get anywhere near to a stable 4.8 on that motherboard, and as asked earlier is your 7850 overclocked ?

Uh.. yeah, not to many VRM's the Those Extreme 4 970's.

Take it slow and keep your eye on the Motherboard VRM's as well as the CPU temp. if you want help make a post in the CPU room. :)

So it seems fairly clear that the better option would be to buy a new motherboard and overclock the CPU. The GPU is overclocked but I'm at work at the moment and I'm unsure as to what extent. If anyone knows the max values allowed within the CCC it's set as that, never crashed so far!

I would quite happily buy a new motherboard but I'd be looking to buy one for around £100, are there any decent ones available for this price which will give me enough room to OC the CPU?

I thought pile drivers were newish? They should be ok with a 7850? Maybe your oc is unstable.

Id first set everything at defaults and see how the games run?

This motherboard would be better, but ideally you would be looking at nearer to £150 for a good motherboard for piledriver

To get the best out of the piledriver especially if you plan to overclock is that the motherboard choice is far more important then say with an intel set up.

+1 or this Asus M5A99X EVO has 8 Phase VRM's.

CCC max values are pretty safe, but its not often that you can max those values without an overvolt, you did well.

I'd noticed on those that the PCI-E runs at half speed when sticking two in, how much more do you have to pay to get two full speed PCI-Es? would be nice to have the option of CF in the future.
