My HTPC currently has a Sapphire 7770 GHz in it which pretty much plays everything OK as the display is only 720p. I actually have a second one sitting unused as wanted to play with crossfire.

I do have a bit of a Western World problem with it tho, the HDMI signal during the BIOS phase is all messed up and can't see half of the screen as its stretched.

I was getting around this on my old Z68 motherboard by using Virtu and passing through to the HD 3000 on my i5. Had to turn that off as a lot of games were starting to fail, stuff like Arkham City for a instance.

Since then, I've changed motherboard to a Rampage Gene Z77. Questions really are is the newer Virtu less problematic, does anyone know of some BIOS trickery to fix the HDMI probs (it's fine over DVI) and what single NVIDIA card that isn't silly long match crossfire 7770?

(The 7770 replace a non Ti 560 which was way too noisy and then melted itself)

loads of people, the Lian HTPC is perfect for gaming, it's what i'll use next, mind you, it could do with being 2'' taller, that way Megahalems will fit in

you use it because it fits perfectly under the TV Plasma stand, right beside the Bluray, a large card will fit easily you just have to move the HDD tray out of the way

that'll be easy to design on Autocad and get laser cut

When does anyone use a HTPC for gaming? :S

HTPC is a usage pattern, not a form factor.

My HTPC is a console alternative, a quiet tower PC out of sight that can play movies and games. I interact with it mostly with bluetooth and an xbox controller.

Will it be super massive overkill for gaming at 1280x720 resolution?

Yes, a rear venting 660 would suffice while offering the very best gpu cooling for Htpc use:

If you look up that review, the 660 sits closer to the 670 @720p and performs closely to the 79's in some occasions as Nvidia is better at lower resolutions.
