I am trying to restore a Win XP OS due to the fact my mate has deleted some Win system files I have attempted to restore the OS.

But heres the problem, the install fails as it keeps asking for C:Del\drivers\r126542\win2000 and asks me to locate them? However their are no such drivers avail in any folder that I can navigate to.

I thought about down them from another computer and adding them via a usb stick. However as you may already know the usb is not recognised as the install is not complete so its catch 22.

How the heck do i get the drivers so that I can tell the windows install were to look for them. If I choose to ignore then the mouse stops working and I am stuck..

So over to you kind peeps who may have a cunning plan????

Use a livecd, plug a USB stick in and extract the needed files to c:/?
Thanks for the info- update is I have managed to get the drivers on to a USB stick and navigated to the stick to let the install continue. But again have become unstuck as the file Win is looking for is igfxren.lrc and wont accept the option for all files (so that I can point to the msi) I have searched the net for this problem but all that I get is a suite to scan and fix this automatically when I think? I just need this file as a pointer so that Win picks it up and continues the install?

Can you not do a repair install?

Also you could try Microsoft fix it. It's helped me with update problems.

E: what happens when you double click the MSI file? It should just install.

E2: when installing drivers in device manager it looks for .inf files not .msi or .exe. these are installers and should run when you double click them
