This is a reminder that you must activate your free Windows 8 Media Center Pack product key** by January 31, 2013:

If your still running win 8 with Media Center, then you must activate Media Center.

Same thing here, already have it and activated and yet today get an email telling me I need to activate before 31st January.

its just a reminder in case you haven't used the key yet.

once you've used the key it becomes active and then valid for life

What happens here. When the keys were going free, you were allowed to download to an email address. Some people were using different email address to get a key sent to that email address. The problem is you can only use 1 key per win 8 installation, which means, that if you used 4 email address, and got 4 keys, then 3 keys will go to waste.

I reckon those people will have more than one machine running w8 or perhaps know a friend who want one

I just stumbled upon a problem that I hadn't spotted.

Installed Windows 8 on my tablet and my laptop. Paid for two windows licenses and have been happily using them ever since. However I hadn't put media centre on my tablet but had requested a product key.

Of course I didn't read the small print well enough and it turns out that its one code per email address so the two emails I'd received for my two windows 8 licenses both had the same product key.

This resulted in my windows installation on my tablet deactivating itself. I've reactivated by telephone and both now have valid media centre installations it seems. This is bound to go wrong in the future though so I've requested another key to a different email address.
