Hi I have decided I want to build a gaming pc as my current pc ( which I bought from a shop about 6 years ago ) is crap and looks like its on its last legs. The max I have to spend is £1000. I want to be able to game on it with as close to max settings as possible. However I don't want to waste money either. So say if there was 2 graphics cards with £100 difference and the more expensive was only marginally better, then I would rather go with the cheaper one. I would like it to be future proof in the sense that I will have the possibility to easily upgrade parts in the future and the parts in the build will last a good while to.

I am also interested in overclocking although I have never done this before. Can I use the cooler/ heat sink or whatever it is that comes with the CPU or will I need an after market one if I want to overclock?

I already have a monitor, mouse and keyboard. I also would probably prefer to go with a top end i5 rather than i7 due to price but if you feel I should opt for the i7 then I will consider it. But as I said I'm not a religious pc gamer so don't want to waste money.

Sorry for the long read lol. Hopefully I have gave you guys enough info. Please help a newb :D

Thanks

Thanks for all the quick responses. Which build do I choose lol? I have just found out the wife wants to redecorate the house  so will probably have to start the build in another month or two. Will these parts still be ok or will there be anything better by then?

come back and ask for a spec when you're ready to order. prices can and will change (pretty often)

The other thing to consider if your waiting a couple of months is that Haswell is due to launch in April and the new AMD GPU's should be around that time too.
