As title.

I currently have a lowly Q8200. No intention of upgrading for a year or two, but think I could do with a GFX boost. I only game occasionally, presently using a GTS250 512mb.

So, what's the highest spec Nvidia card for my CPU?

Thanksy :)

Some will say 470/480/560TI/570 but I will say a 660. Price wise, they are not bad at all and I still feel you will be slightly bottlenecked but at least you have the option of upgrading the CPU/MOBO/RAM at some stage and have a card to do that upgrade justice.

Even if you stick with your current system and a 660, it will perform very well in games.

Also, you haven't said how much RAM you've got. But RAM is cheap. So if you have 4GB or less, pick up some more.

If it is DDR2, it can be fairly pricey. 4GB is plenty.

Would a 660 be fine for my spec? (talking about your first comment in this thread)

Even a 660 will be bottlenecked using that CPU in many games.

650ti would be more appropriate, possibly even a 650.

I think greg means buying a 660 is the best way to go even if bottlenecked as a 650 is only a small difference away.

His CPU will defo bottleneck the card but atleast he will have that card when he decides to upgrade his CPU.

Games like Skyrim and such will gain from this card as they arent really CPU hungry.

I have 8gb of ram, 24inch / 1920 x 1080 monitor.

Games I usally play - racing sims mostly. But also the occasional shooters / action games. Going through HL2:EP1/2 and Black Mesa atm. Others to play (will take me 1-2 years) - last two recent Tombraiders, Hitman BM, SOC, Mass Effect 1/2, Portal 1/2, Metro 2033, Bioshock.

I plan to pick up a few other games which are a year or two old - Batman games, Mafia 2. I will probably go for Skyrim when all the above are done (I estimate 2015!!)

Approx 6950 performance for just over a £100 notes. Can't be bad.
Looking at the benchmarks it is more like 5870 than 6950 performance wise, and even overclocking can't make it come close to touching the stock speed 7850 :p

Not bad if one must stick with Nvidia, but personally I would just pick up a 7850 for a little more and will be hell lot faster.

There's not much difference at all between the 5870 and 6950, though at 1080p, I suspect you'd have to drop the AA to be there or thereabouts with them. :)

7850 would be much better, (if the OP is willing to shell what was nearly the same price for a 660, though that proved a little too costly for him). :)
