At what age are you too old to game?

36 and gaming (pc) plays such a huge part in my life I cant ever see me giving it up. In fact I feel like I am growing to love it more and more. The fact some closed minded idiots think I may be too old actually makes me want to do it even more.....kind of a siege mentality! :D

I think the stigma associated with adults gaming is actually much lower than it used to be. I remember I became too embarrassed to ask my dad for gaming stuff as presents; the N64 came out a few days before my 17th Birthday and I quite fancied one but didn't think playing games at that age would be approved of.

Nowadays people openly talk about gaming at work (albeit I work in a IT-focused organisation) which didn't really happen 10+ years ago except for select cliques.

Age and what is 'Socially Acceptable' is just another construction. It used to be considered that gaming was for spotty teenage somethings. Now gaming is mainstream and as accessible as watching a film, listening to an album or reading a book.

Im 39 and I don't expect to give up gaming on PC any time soon. I love it, I enjoy playing games and having the best kit I can get.

I'm mid-30s and play a lot of computer games (consoles and PC)

my dad (who is >65) is also a regular FPS gamer, currently he's playing a lot of BF3 - hes 145 hours in (all multiplayer)

Never too old, however, with age I'm playing less and less. Almost nothing these days apart from Warcraft, but even that I haven't touched for 3 days now. I did write a post here a few weeks ago that for me, the wonder of games are slowly fading. Maybe it's age, maybe it's a lesser imagination or maybe I've just got bored with it, but I doubt I'll even have a gaming PC within the next two years. And it does sadden me as I still remember how much I enjoyed it and how I loved escaping into the virtual worlds of games. I couldn't even care if HL3 never comes out. And HL2 is still my favourite game of all time.

In about 40 years, there will be normal, hardcore, and OAP servers. So the oldies can actually compete with guys of their own reaction time group :D

Also 36 here, and a day never goes by where I don't think about gaming. I play every day that it's feasible, currently most days.

I'm a console gamer for the main reason that the games I like to play - those that do something different or push the boundaries in certain ways - are on Nintendo platforms. As a previous poster mentioned, I'm generally bored of games that retread the same ground, which is often the case with a lot of first or third person games. I have a 360, too, and only recently got rid of my PS3. I have a bunch of old consoles, a good emulation PC, and also an arcade machine (Flicky, 1984). So I think it's safe to say I'll be gaming until health dictates otherwise.

My Dad introduced me to gaming with the Speccy. He's now 64, and still gaming. These days he's casual web games, board games and cards games only, as that fits best with his lifestyle. I expect he'll have just had a game of online pool or Uno when life shows him "game over".
