I'm looking for some noise-cancelling headphones to use whilst travelling. After doing a bit of researching online, the general consensus seems to be that Bose's range is the gold standard. Bose's headphones aren't cheap but they apparently do the job well.

Does that match up with people's experiences on here? Any recommendations? I don't mind spending a decent sum of money if it means getting a product that actually works.

I recently got some Bose QC-15's for commuting and they've make a big difference. I'm no longer constantly fiddling with the volume when train enters/exists a tunnel etc.

IMHO they are worth the money.

I've tried a couple of pairs of the Bose units. They were VERY good at noise canceling.
However, I ended up buying a pair of Sennheisers PXC250s, which I prefer the sound quality of, despite having worse noise canceling capability.

Thanks for the replies.

Is there any reason you went for the QC-15 over the QC-3? Comfort? I see the QC-3 has a rechargeable battery.

I tried both as I liked the idea of rechargeable batteries but I've always preferred around ear v over ear headphones. In the end I decided comfort was more important.

The QC-15 only uses one AAA battery so I can live with it. I had some batteries lying around which I've put in the case so when I run out I have spares on hand.

I've got a pair of Bose QC3s for travelling and they're superb. I think the noise cancelling aspect may be better on the QC15 but I have no complaints with them.

Yes, not cheap, but the audio quality and noise cancelling effectiveness make them a great travelling companion.

Thanks everyone. I think I'll head to the Bose shop in the Stratford Westfield centre and see which feel most comfy. :)

I really like my Goldring NS1000 headphones, not as good as the Bose but they are only £50-60 which is much more affordable!

I've used them on long haul flights to Thailand, Hong Kong etc and they have been really good, I also use them on the tube in London, fantastic value for money.

It would kind of help if you had said a budget to be honest.

I have Beyerdynamics 101IE and they are fantastic for the money (good reviews on Head-Fi), you can pick them up for about £60.

Stock answer: Buy some Senn HD25-1 II

Isolate well enough without fancy cancelilng tech and batteries. Used them on the Underground for a few years and happily use them when I'm flying on business internationally.

Great headphones. Until they snap off.

I have:

Senn HD25
Bose QC15
AKG K550

Only recently got the last pair... out of the Senns and Bose, I prefer the Bose on flights.

These AKGs seem a bit more noise isolating than the Senns though, so am going to try them out this weekend.
