Need advice on my next GPU

Here are pics of the cards that I have had over the last few months.

I had the 7950 top earlier last year.

The 7950 and gtx 670 Windforce editions had the coolest temps matching the 7950 top but that is a 3 slot cooler. All under 70c on auto fan profile.

The EVGA FTW SIG 2 had the highest stable overclock at 1254 mhz with temps reaching 75c average and the ASUS dcu2 670 getting a stable 1241 which is good considering it's not the top edition. Temps were 72c average.

Both cards were on auto fan profile.

The ASUS dcu2 has a base clock of only 915 but boosted out of the box to 1124.

The 7950 is the best value card imo but I found that the 670's gave smoother and more consistent frame rates across a wide variety of games.

My Windforce 670 didn't overclock very well at all. Out of the box it has a 980 base clock and boosted to 1137 mhz. Stable overclock only reached 1154 mhz, so I got a poor overclocker.

The ASUS cards are the quietest imo. I could not hear the card until I increased the fan speed to 80 percent.

The Windforce cards were the coolest.

And the EVGA was the fastest.

Build quality goes to ASUS then EVGA imo.

Be aware that the ASUS dcu2 gtx 670 has 2 green led's next to the power inputs. They are quite bright and they don't turn off when you power down.

Good post; useful bit of info there. :)

Out of interest, what would you say with regard to the differences in image quality (if any)?

I think I'll consider ASUS as well now after reading that, thanks. I won't be buying the card till Thursday (payday) so I still have some time to decide.

I prefer the image quality of the AMD cards to be honest. I always have to add a little more saturation and contrast with Nvidia cards to please my eyes.

I forgot to mention that I have a Sapphire 7850 in another pc and recently returned a 7770 oc.

I love gpu's more than candy. Lol.

I've narrowed it down between these 3 I think:

Edit: I've just realised that the ghz edition is probably a waste of 30-40 quid when I could get the normal windforce 7970 and probably reach the same clocks as the ghz???

Out of the above, I'd get the 670.

The price on the 680 is lower than normal, but I think I'd still rather have the 670 (just give it an overclock).

Yes to the above re : the ghz 7970.

That's what I thought with the 680, I noticed the price but I don't usually care much for cards with only a small one fan cooler. If AMD sort the frame latency out I think the 7970 will be a no brainer as I think the stutter issues I was having are much more common in the 7870's as everyone with 7950's and 7970's seem pretty pleased with them on here.

The Windforce cards are a good buy, I currently have a 7970 GHz Edition and its brilliant, runs cool and quiet, only problem I have is my CPU is bottlenecking it :(
Go for a Windforce you want be disappointed. 7870 or 7950 are good prices for the performance.

+1. Been very impressed by the WF. Cooler on my 680, very quiet and keeps everything nice and cool.

Changed my mind again after viewing the review of the 13.2 drivers that have fixed the frame latency issue. Would be daft spending more to gain less performance. 7970 it is.

LOL!

I hope 13.2 are some wonder drivers im still having minor problems in some games with my 7970! Radeon Pro fixes most but still some niggles!

I still have option to go 680 so its on my mind!

Well ive always been Nvidia because i get no problems with their cards.

The main reason i picked the 7970 is because its better on paper and was cheaper!

Id never buy a 680 at full price but i have the option to switch over if these drivers dont sort themselves out, the problems seem to come and go with most games which is really weird.

But knowing my luck ill swap to a 680 and then the new drivers will fix everything and ill be stuck with a 256 bus card for 3-4 years lol, well if i dont upgrade :P

Unless you go multi monitor, I doubt the 256 bus will cause you any issues whatsoever. :)
