Are there any cars that run on petrol or diesel and will achieve 60mpg+ at 100mph?

A car so light and so aerodynamic plus with the special gearing, at 100 the engine wouldn't be working so hard. It won't get 100mpg but can you imagine how awesome the whole package would be?

You want to work it hard for the BMEP to drive the engine BSFC down.... It has a throttle plate after all.

I should maybe have said K20 y0?

Batteries are good. Do it in daylight and you have hours of running without any charging drag unlike an alternator. Direct injection might have been enough.

VW XL1 will probably be the first and will meet the target and more by quite an amount.

Just reminded me of that car. Yes good candidate., although it never made production.

0.2 cd and 660kg. 113mpg seems to be the NEDC result so I think that story has simply got carried away. Car is good for 155mph which is very impressive for 112bhp!

Well you only asked if there were any cars not whether you could buy it :D

It is a shame its not available but you could always build one, the engines exist and a couple of kit cars you could start with.

Ah yes a bit more googling it was 141mph average speed and 31.4mpg.

I've been doing about 85MPH on the motorway and dual carriageway / A road leg of my commute, and returning about 52MPG (about 20% of the drive is 30 zones though, fail).

If my old shed with a 1980s diesel engine can do that, I'm sure that target can't be far off.
