My OCZ ZX 1000w psu was making that noise since i bought it.
But not until yesterday that i realised how loud. Watercooling does wonderful things to system noise lessening. Which brought up psu coil whine. It was manageable when both gtx480 fans kick in and drown it out, but now...deary me...

Did some reading and it appears that a lot of OCZ 1000-1250w psu's squeal.
Some say its because of SLI or high power draws etc...

Nope, it was whining when i had one gtx480, it still whines when i run SLI.

I dont overclock GPUs, only slight cpu overclock.

Also, what i found is that RMA usually doesnt fix the issue, you just get another whiny one...

So, question to OcUK staff (and of course general population): Can i get refund and OR replacement to the brand that 100% is not whiney ? Which really silent 1kW PSU's i'should be looking at ?

Also, shame on you OCZ, for calling your 1kW psu "SILENT"...

Just a bit of a rant...

P.S. Just out of curiosity, what is turnaroud timeframe for RMA'ing OCZ products ?

#Edit1# ...Or is it OcUK that does the "OCZ PowerSwap" replacement ?

I have the OCZ ZX1000 in a box somewhere. I was sick of the squealing so the last upgrade i did, i replaced it with a Corsair AX860.

I must say, it was a horrible noise, but i also heard many a time that RMA with these PSUs just means you get another that squeals.

You'd be better off posting in "Component Technical Support" in the customer service section at the top of the forum.

Not exactly what you asked, but I have the same PSU powering my system with Sli'd GTX 570's.

Had the Power supply for a while now and it has always been silent (touch wood).

The AX860 (non i version) is affected by coil whine too. Put your ear next to it after it has been powered up for half an hour

I can hear mine from under headphones. Computer is about 4-5 feet away and it still squeals like a stuck pig. Even on vsync'ed, fps limited 3d games.

If my research is good OCZ ZX1000w is manufactured by Great Wall, and people say their wares' quality varies greatly. Which is why a lot of ZX psus whine. (Please correct me on manufacturer if i'm mistaken.)

Now i have to decide what to do.

OcUK told me to deal directly with OCZ because PSU is over one year old (why not full 5 year warranty ? I'm not pushing this point at this moment).
RMA, which will cost me money (sending it back) will most likely do nothing.
Do i void warranty and do glue gun thing to try and silence coils ? (anyone got good info on this ?)
Get another PSU ? WHICH ONE ? Mostly every PSU i looked at have issues and reports of coil whine. I dont expect to find anyone with identical setup like mine to ask which PSU they use...

Never thought that PSU can annoy me so much...

#Edit1# Also, is there some sort of EU/UK "lemon law" applicable to this ? IF i get another whiney one ? I'll gladly use a good OCZ product, but suffering this problem OR having to splurge out for another high quality product is not really an option...
