Hello,

I'm fortunate? in that I get to wear pretty much whatever I feel like to work, unless someone important comes into the office.
I now have to go over to head office in the states to rescue some americans from themselves.

Apparently dress code there is smart casual. I don't have anything that really fits that description that actually fits me, so I'm going to have to buy some new clothes.

But I'm poor... so where should I go to get them?

Any advice, much appreciated. I just need shirts/polo shirts/some smart jeans/trousers really... Tesco?

I've got a few shirts from George at Asda, They're really comfortable and i think i got them for about £8.

I'd suit and tie it if I were going over to another country to sort out staff there.

Walk in suited and booted and shank the biggest guy, wiping the blood from your knife on your silk tie. It's the only way to command fear and respect in equal measures

I'd chino it with a shirt. That's smart casual. With shoes, naturally.

Burton, or top man might do some cheapy stuff you could have, or like mentioned, tesco/supermarket stuff should see you right on a budget.

'Apparently' is one of those words which can trip you up.

Speak to someone who works there and dress according to their recommendation. If this fails then wearing a suit and tie still allows you to dress down quickly and easily; wearing cargo pants and some stupid band t-shirt with 9 days facial growth is far harder to up-dress (this is not a word).

Who cares? You'll just be 'that English guy', depending on how long you stay surely it doesn't matter that much what you wear as long as it's not track suit bottoms and a superdry polo.

My info on dress code came from the Vice President of Engineering, so I'll trust him :)

Tweed hunting jacket, fawn breeches, riding boots and carry a whip.

It's what all Americans think we wear around the house, so why disappont?

Trust his mind and his Engineering skills, not his fashion sense.

Actually, in terms of fitting in and being dreadfully dressed but your boss liking you - ignore everything I have said (apart from this post). Have fun!

Can't really go wrong with this tbh.
