Need advice on my next GPU

I think it will in the future but probs by then ill need upgrade to play them games anyways, i like the 7970 its really tiny things thats annoying me, like shadow stretching and **** and texture blinking, all things that just dont happen on Nvidia cards :\

Im really picky about these things some people can live with it but i just cant it ruins the games for me, specially when i know it shouldnt be there and it wouldnt be there if i swapped over to Nvidia :\

Well, yes, in the very long term you will find it not enough, but otherwise I wouldn't let that worry you. Don't forget, Nvidia can have their moments as well. I find they are more prone to outline shimmering on objects than AMD gpu's.

If you're really not happy with your card, just sell it while its worth a few bob, and get a 670 and be done with it. :)

Btw, I tried autofan on CS:S last night. I think you may have converted me. :)

I have experienced similar things with Nvidia, but i don't go on about it at every possible opportunity and say things like
all things that just dont happen on Nvidia cards
because that is utter crap.

How can it be "utter crap"?

I had a 660 and i never had anything happen thats happening on the 7970 :\ so "utter crap" no i dont think so.

This guy is gonna spend a couple hundred quid on a card i think he should know about certain things and then make his choice.

Im not the kinda person who if i have that card its better then every other card and recommend it in every "what gpu" thread, if im not happy with it ill let other people know before they make their choice.

Its utter crap because it does happen on Nvidia cards no matter how much you insist it doesn't.

Conjecture is not fact.

Some stuff may happen im not denying that at all.

What im saying is the things that are happening with the 7970 didnt happen with the 660, so im guessing they wont happen with the 680?

I know theres bugs left right and center on both companies cards but with the games i play i havent seen anything like ive seen with the 7970 vrs the 660.

Im not saying Nvidia is bug free or anything.

You have a 7950 anyways?

What games do you play atm?

Just a reminder of what you said.

If you had something with one card that is not to say that is a fault or problem with all cards of the same make / model, 99.99999999999999999% of other users do not experience the same problems you apparently did on the same card.

The way you chose to word what you say indicates very clearly that what your trying to do is generate an impression of a brand specific fault.

Not cool, or clever.

The faults Im on about are all over the internet?

Why would i put my own card down? What have i got to gain? Wouldn't i benefit more if amd got more business and more money to make better drivers?

Every bug I've mentioned more than just me have had them. Fair enough some people can live with them others notice them.

If you name some games ill tell you if there's some i play and then we can compare.

This thread is heading downhill very quickly.

Stop bickering folks. There are bugs on both sides.

My experience with the cards in my first post both had some issues that I could live with, which is why I didn't mention them.

The AMD cards flickered when browsing the internet. They also had sound problems through hdmi which was fixed by ticking the lcd overdrive box even without hitting apply.

The Nvidia cards stuttered on the AMD sponsored Deus Ex HR which I play quite often.

The AMD cards stuttered on the Nvidia sponsored Batman AC and Crysis 2.

The list could go on.

No card nor company is perfect.

I don't consider someone highlighting the problems they have seen as bickering. I find it interesting to know and wish more people would be honest about pointing out 'issues' they have found.

I have said in numerous threads that Nvidia 310.xx drivers are poor for SLI/Multi screen users. I would rather someone knows the potential flaws instead of keeping quiet. Regardless of spending, I feel we all have the right to know of issues we have seen, so we could at least google said issue and see if it is bad or easily sorted out.

What I find as bickering is someone saying that any issues found are utter crap and insists it does happen on Nvidia cards. That is just fanboy talk.

That's my point, some people who have a 7970/680 will say they are the perfect card and have no problems at all. If everyone was honest and pointed out the problems they would probably get fixed faster!

There is no point defending your card you gain nothing to :/

I've got the choice to go 680 so am really trying to make the right decision as it could be a mistake down the line!

Greg them drivers were mostly bad with sli or with single card too?

It kills me really to not like my 7970 but if its not doing what it should do then i will have to swap, I've got one week to test as much as possible then make my choice 680 or stay 7970 :(

I did some frame latency tests on the 310.xx drivers and then again on the 306.23 drivers and the 310 drivers were bad. It seems very hit and miss, as checking out the NV forums, some have no issues with single cards and some do. With a forum like that, lots of those issues will be PEBKAC but some will be genuine.

New drivers expected this week and I will post any issues I have/come across. Hopefully a step in the right direction.

As you can see compared to 306.23, the 310 drivers suck for SLI/Multi screen.

I may just go for a 7950 now and hopefully hit the silicon lottery. I know I'll probably be left disappointed by the 670 or 7970 after spending £300+ when I could spend £230 and achieve similar performance to stock 680's 7970's.

Good that could help.

Have you noticed any texture problems in games? Any stuttering when scrolling maps and what not?

Do you own torchlight 2? Every few frames it skiosbone in the 7970 unless i use radeon pro its very weird, i think this is frame latency but i can't say what's causing the texture problems sometimes they are there and other times they are not :/

Would be nice if i had 2 pcs to compare myself its so hard to trust anyone and half the people think Im making stuff up :/ why would i wanna diss my own system? This is what i don't understand if it ran like half the peoples on here id be happy lol 0 problems and run farcry 3 ultra in multiplayer 0 problems!

Maybe you have misunderstood my intent here.

I am not talking about keeping quiet about problems with the cards. I am trying to tell the poster's to not let the thread turn into a fanboy war.

My apologies if it didn't come across that way.

Anyway, the tc has made their choice.

You may need to try a few cards to find out which one you will keep.

I don't think I could be bothered to keep sending them back. My heads telling me to go with nvidia and hopefully get rid of any of the problems I had with the 7870 but AMD's price/performance ratio tells me I'd be stupid to jump ship.

I don't own Torchlight 2 (not my kind of game) sorry and the only game I have a problem with is Far Cry 3. I even put settings to medium and was getting 80+ fps constantly and still stuttered every now and then. I am not sure if this is drivers or game devs at fault though, as I read AMD and Nvidia users are having problems with this game in SLI/CF and multi screen.

I even switched back to my trusted 306.23 drivers and ran Nvidiainspector to force SLI and it was still just as bad. This is why I feel it is the game devs and not drivers.

BF3 was poor with 310 as well (as you could see) but no problem with 306.23. I haven't had much time for gaming recently but hopefully I will this week (week off woooooo). I have a few games I have not even played yet in my steam library :(

I hear what you are saying and no need to appologise. :) Lots of threads do spiral into war and the OP is being sensible in his decision and I would hate to see him choose a particular card and report back with problems.

Better to know potential hiccups prior to buying or I would prefer that anyways.
