New BMI Calculation :D

This calculator thing is plain wrong. In my 20ies, when I was skinny, and by that I mean proper ribcage visible at all times, pelvic bones sticking out from jeans skinny, the lowest I weighted was 65kg. At the time I was told my regular target weight for 173cm was supposed to be 75-80kg. Minimum. This new BMI calculator things tells me that at 65kg skeletor I was mid way "normal" and at 75kg I would be borderline overweight. And at stunning Christian Bale in Machinist auschwitz skinny 54kg, the BMI would be border normal, barely edging on underweight. This calculator is either for women only or something crazy has happened to the world!

i know right.. im less than 1% from being overweight by that.. what it doesn't count is muscle mass which is play stupid and BMI calculators should be ignored.

BMI is useless, most people know this.

28bmi. not that i pay much attention to it. I know i'm overweight, i don't need that to tell me.

I'd be happy at 13st but that would still be overweight according to the bmi.

Still means bugger all, I'm on the 25.5 line yet I'm running 50km per week at the moment training for a marathon + dirty rat race weekend with rock climbing thrown in twice a week.

Still, I've always seen it as a guide to the level of stress your joints are under (even those big lads who power lift wont be doing the joints any good at a BMI of 30+)

KaHn

Yes not just that it's also a decent measure for the extra stress your heart is under.

As if you should naturally have a smaller frame, then bulk up your heart has to work that much harder to get the blood around your body thus putting it under a lot of strain in the long run.

If I remember you suffered quite a bit with joint issues? Never thought about it w.r.t. the heart factor tho.

My knees yeah. Patella tendonitis though, and it looks to be more a flexibility and tightness issue in my upper legs that cause it, along with dropping 100kg+ back to my chest and not "accepting" the weight properly.
Squats, with more weight but to a full depth, are better for my knees and give me less pain :D

24.9

Not even close to being overweight in reality though, as I go to the gym so a lot of my weight is muscle. That's why BMI is pointless.
