Has it been dramatically reduced?

I'm 19, passed in August 2011 and Pass Plus, insured my 2004 Smart Forfour 1.1t in July for £1900 (after spending a few weeks looking for cheapest insurer).

Today I run some quotes on a 2005 Vauxhall Astra 1.4.. Golf 1.4.. Punto 1.4.. etc.. Getting results for £1000ish Fully Comp!

You've survived 2 years without flipping your car into someone's garden on fire, so you are seen as less of a risk.

At 19 I was able to insure a 180bhp 'warm' hatch for £600.

I guess you've probably got a pretty decent post code as well as that has a big effect on things. At 23 now I'm able to insure pretty much anything for sensible money (911 Turbo would be £950 for example) and I'm sure most of that is down to my post code as I only have 2 year NCB (0 accidents though).

All new drivers wrap their car around every lamp post and tree they pass, don't they? On the second year it's only every other lamp post

yeah getting old has its ups i guess, ive been getting quotes on audi tt £280 full comp :D

1st year: £1200 (1.6 Focus)
2nd year: £750
3rd year: £480
4th year: £800 (bought a focus ST)
5th year: £580
6th year: £426

My first year was £1600... I've ran some quotes for April when my insurance is renewed and it will go down to £750 :o Less than half of what I paid before.

1st Year = £1550 - Renault Clio 1.4
2nd Year = £850
3rd Year = £455 - Toyota iQ 1.0

All fully comp, to be honest, I was hoping my 3rd year to be sub £400 when I changed to a small car - I did move and my current area is now a little more expensive.

Sounds reasonable then :) Although I was doing those quotes with it set to "No NCD". So the only thing that had changed was the amount of time I've had my license and my age.

£1900! I don't know how people afford to start driving as a teenager these days!

That said from getting a little older now (25) I have found my location in the country has a greater bearing on my insurance cost than my age.

They can't, they go under named driver and commit fraud.

Me too, I was helping my friend get some quotes the other week but his postcode is shocking if he lived 5 miles away from where he is now it would nearly half.

£90 to change my '04 Smart Forfour 1.1t to an '05 Astra 1.4 Twinport.
Then at renewal it'll be £800 cheaper than it was to insure my Smart Forfour.

Sounds good to me!

Remarkably, that's the same car I started with and the same price too (back in 2002 though). And I have an iQ now as well!

You're clearly making good life choices chap, carry on
