Hi,

I currently have 2 cars insured under my name, my main car and then my old car which I am selling added as a temporary car.

Someone is coming to buy the car off me tonight and have said they have set their insurance up to start at 6pm. Thing is, is I didn't think you could have the same car insured twice by different people, and I obviously don't want to cancel my insurance until I have the cash in my hand. As soon as the transaction is done I will be cancelling my insurance on the temporary car.

Is there any issues with having two people insure one car for a couple of hours?

Thanks.

A quick Google on my part say's there can't be 2 policies on one car unless both insurers agree to it.

When I bought my car I just asked my insurer for the policy to start on the day I was picking it up (private seller). I have no idea what the seller did, if anything prior to this as he took me out in it only 2-3 days prior and my insurers didn't ask or mention anything in relation to this.

Oh well, who cares

You can have 2 policies but you can't claim on both. And some insurers have stuff in the t&c's which can cause issues like stating theirs isn't valid if another policy covers the same risk.

OK. But surely once I've been paid and cancel mine that wouldn't matter any more, right?

Turns out we have it insured with the same people so I assume if they let her do it then it's all fine.
