Whats this all about then, they seem to be doing this really frequently on this road - its like theyre waiting for a slight blemish in the road so they can strike and sort it.. I've never known a council to be so pro active... Or is there another more sinester reason theyre doing this!?

The machines look really cool - a really bright light that reflects up into some sort of scanner :).

What is road scanning?

The shire - Shirehampton? I think I may have asked you this in a previous thread, if so my bad!

Haha yeah you did, im from wiltshire but drive to bris every day with work and go along the 4174 (ring road) up to emersons green..

Ah ha!

That ring road will haunt me forever.

Protip : Don't hit V-TEC along the stretch running from hambrook lights > the beefeater. I won't detail the rest :p

Ah, i often use the roundabout that turns to pucklechurch instead of the sliproad there, 9/10 its faster... What type r do you have? Itr or ctr?

Nothing sinister I'm afraid, just collecting road condition data to help understand/programme future maintenance. Quite an impressive bit of kit, it collects loads of data including:

- 3 Dimensional Co-ordinates
- Road Geometry
- Longitudinal Profile
- Wheelpath Rutting
- Texture Profile
- Cracking

Never give up man !! Should have chucked a jackson racing charger on it :).

What do you have now>?!

A (what can only be described as awful) 2000 renault megane liberté which is literally a battle to drive each day as it cuts out, and gives me only 45-50 miles per £15 I put in, so essentially it's screwed. Shoot me now.

its the frequency with which they do it, never seen it done on any other road and i can think of lots more important roads... hmm

It might be monitoring the condition of a certain treatment they've given the road or something else specific to that road. Or they might have had the most claims for potholes against that road.

You've seen the way they painted the new lines a few months back right? Well that took a few attempts to sort and still isn't ok.
This is probably no different, same just just needing to be done lots as they are useless :p

It's so they can schedule and stagger as many roadworks as possible to bring the city to a standstill as effectively as they can, to increase tax revenues. As soon as one finishes, another pops up 20 feet away - repeat ad finitum.

Maybe they should venture a bit further along to the Longwell Green ASDA as the mini roundabout there is like the surface of the moon.
