Very slow transfer speeds can't figure out the cause

Hi everyone

I'm trying to transfer data from a Samsung HD2041UI plugged into an Icybox docking and clone station to an internal HDD via USB 3.

It starts out fine, Windows (7 64bit) is showing around a steady 80MB/s transfer speed then after a minute or so it drops drastically right down to 3-5MB/s.

If I cancel the download it takes ages to stop, with the dialog box just saying "cancelling".

I've made sure I've got the latest USB 3 drivers for the Gigabyte motherboard but that hasn't made any difference.

What else can I do to diagnose the problem?

Thanks.

are you using intel rapid storage drivers aswell? i think they contain chipset/usb drivers aswell as installing latest usb3 drivers later

quickest way would be to connect the 2tb hdd inernally to the sata port and clone that way

Thanks for the reply.

I don't know, I haven't heard of those before, how would I find out if I have them installed?

Doing it internally isn't an option really which is why I got the Icy Box.
