Council tax evasion.

The mistake with anti-council tax movement is thinking that the government and taxation is within the law. They force people to pay tax at threat of prison and violence (if you resist the cage). Why would any logical or reasonable legal argument be any defensive against the state when they are operating outside the framework of common law.

It is legalized theft and no amount of legal argument is ever going to change that. The state does not care if you think it is lawful or not, they will put you in a cage even if you could prove 100% that they are acting unlawfully. That is why when you phone up HMRC legal department and ask them about the legality of taxation they can not answer the questions, because they know it is unlawful theft at the threat of violence.

Doesn't work in practice since there are shared services that you use passively as soon as you walk out of your front door - gritting, litter collection, pest control, lighting etc.

You could argue that you can opt out of certan services and pay less but not that you can opt out all together.

Yeah was just a poor attempt at being facetious. If they opt out of paying, they shouldn't expect the police to turn up if they are attacked, or fire if their houses is on fire, etc..

I have no issues with paying council tax.

Well, the council think it's ok to close local services in an effort to save money yet completely welcome the idea of opening an islam faith school. It's no wonder people give them the two fingers.

councils are cutting services left right and centre, paying massive salaries to non-jobs and executives, councillors racking up expenses and they have the bloody nerve to think that increasing it year on year is ok

Irrelevant. Almost all Islamic schools are independent and have never received a penny from the council. The few that aren't are voluntary aided, owned-built by a charity but funded by the council, these have the same curriculum, same admission criteria, staff employed by council etc, nothing stopping a protestent child attending an islamic VA school anymore than there was me (baptised CoE, never went back to church) going to a RC school. Now I am against faith schools of any kind replacing state schools, but to bring up the issue here is very off topic.

The freeman on the land stuff makes me laugh. They just make it all up as they go along. Psuedo-legal babble to try and make themselves sound intelligent when all they really want is all the rights the law provides without any of the responsibilities.

80% of council funding comes from central government, not council tax.

Of the money collected locally, anywhere from 5-40% goes towards the council pension fund. 25% isn't unusual.

I don't mind paying provided it's used sensibly. The freeman nuts are just plain wrong and most of them find out the hard way, eventually.

My mother is 58 on £178 a week full time working in warehouse making insulation for boilers, houses etc.
On no benefits because apparently she is above the fresh hold which I find hard to believe.

Rent = £79
Gas and Electric = £60
Bus to work = £19

Leaves her with £20 for food to last the week.

Being unable to eat and live is what is making people act like morons.
Not everyone is on a decent wage.

That's below minimum wage.

I've been reading of a campaign to get a stated funded islamic school. All the paperwork has been sent off and they are now awaiting approval from the government. I'm just pretty p***ed about it tbh. I can see uproar if it gets approved.

That's a lot for Gas and Electricity for a single person. Help her move onto a better tariff.

£179 is about £190 before tax. At minimum wage that is 30 hours of work a week.

Such a person is entitled to the following working tax credit for the remaining part of the tax year (2 months). It may also be possible to get housing and council tax benefit.

I have to pay the council tax for her. Now that rent is going up too I've started to suggest to my mum that she go on the dole to be better off.
