I have tried Google but it seems very vague, i know of a guy that is banned from driving but still uses a vehicle to go to the shop to stock up on more stella and cigs, he is well over the limit while he does this, Now if i was to report him it would need to be completely anonymous as it would cost me my job if i was found to have reported him.

When you call the police can you do this? do they ask you for your name take a note of your number etc?

Crimestoppers

You might also wish to ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 with information about:

someone who often drives whilst under the influence of drinks or drugs
driving with no licence or suspended licence
driving with no insurance.

that's no good, i need to catch him in the act, if i call crime stoppers by the time they get to his place of work he will have been and come back to work. I need to call the police have a car come and wait for him upon his return, he goes and comes at different times and its not always every day. if they just turn up to his work they will all deny any knowledge of it and he will get away with it.

its a family business and they ALL know whats going on, and will deny it to keep him out of trouble

If you know he is over the limit when driving, I believe this is accepted as a valid reason to call 999 if you see him driving like that. But not if you see him driving, and don't know if he's over. I assume this is your boss, if you are talking about losing your job for reporting them?

If you call crimestoppers and explain the situation, it's likely that the police will put surveillance on him so that when he next drives, he'll get caught.

In my area, they give a £250 reward for reporting drunk drivers. (If proved guilty)

Or at least they used to do it.

A neighbour and I have been trying to report a disqualified, uninsured driver using an untaxed vehicle with no success. The Police say they have to catch him in the act but never come out at the times we state he is driving. Been 7 months now.

It's unlikely there would be resources to do that. Call crimestoppers and tell them what vehicle he uses, what times he drinks etc

If you see him driving, ring 999. You don't need to leave a name.

Yes its my bosses son, he drinks at work all day, and then around dinner time if he runs out of tins he will nip in the company van to go get some more!

If i was to report him what i would want to do is call the police as he leaves to get his top ups and have them bring a car to work and wait for him to return, obviously i don't want them knowing i have reported him as i value my job, and i would say i live in the village and have seen him etc, but he is a danger to the public and probably be sent to prison for what he is doing, been banned twice now already.

They wont be able to dispatch a car and wait for him to pull into work, he needs to be reported (and you don't have to leave details) and they can pass a message over the radio to area cars so if they see him driving will have cause to stop him and then test.

edit; Let me expand that a little, generally if someone is behind and following a suspected drink driver then police will attend on blues and twos as you have a poss drunk driver and a mop driving behind one - often with red mist clouding their judgement etc so you have a couple of safety aspects to think of and justify the response. An anon call with no one following could be (and is more likely to be) a malicious report, there would be no justification to having police cars tearing around to get to the potential scene putting their and other road users at risk. Should the car be seen having had the reg passed then of course its well worth a stop on the info given.

well that's pretty much useless to me then, the shop he buys from is literally 5mins away so even if they did put a call out to look out for it then its doubtful he would be in the area to be pulled over, and even if the van was when they see it it will 99.9% chance not be him driving it :/

I've seen on a number of cop programs people reporting others for driving without a licence or under the influence and they have had a police car wait for them to get into their car and start to drive then stop them. A few times the police officer has stated that they rely on the public to inform them of such situations.
It will obviously depend on the area and how many available officers there are on duty, but I reckon there is a good chance they would put surveillance out if you explain when he is using the vehicle.

Well the local police station is also around 4mins drive away, if that!

Does he do it at the same time everyday, reporting it will at least get the reg plate known to patrol officers?

Think about what you are asking the police to do, you call in to a control room - explain the scenario while someone makes a job, then a dispatcher reads it and gives it out on the radio - your call will never be a blues and twos grade so its unlikely it would even be over the air in the 5 mins he happens to be on the road.

A call for a murder that is in progress being 'on scene' within 5 mins of the caller putting starting talking would be pretty impressive unless you happen to have one of very few Police resources literally round the corner not on a job/stop/enquiry.

You basically need pot luck for your scenario to happen in the real world, the odds would be vastly higher should you report it for area info with the correct reg and rough details of when this is happening!
