people on gas / elec prepay?

I feel your pain Wez.

I have had similar issues with NPower recently, along the lines of...

When i moved into my house 7 months ago i carried on paying what the previous tennants had been before me (£80pm) they had built up a £209 credit at the time i took over the tenancy.

Fast forward to the 6th January, i get a call from NPower saying that im £178.13 in Debit to them for the 6 month period, now by my calculation that means i should have been paying about £110 per month since moving in.

What gets me though is is this....Im at work all day, the gas central heating is on for 1 hour in the morning and 4 hours in the evening, the 6 radiators i have in the house all have thermostatic valves and the hallway, and my bedroom ones are turned to minimum (so off basically)

As for electricity....i dont have anything that consumes masses of power such as a tumble dryer, computer is switched off when not in use etc etc.

The property is a well insulated mid terrace house with double glazing.

I just find it unbelieveable that im consuming the gas and electric that Npower say i am, i give them meter readings online monthly and they say im on the cheapest tarriff

I cant turn down the heating much more than it is to be honest.

I wish i could go to a meter just for 3 months to see how it goes, unfortunately you cant...once its in its in.

Well that tells the whole story, prepay £40 p/month E-on, £160 p/month. Sounds a lot, and using the washing machine once a day?

In winter about £20 per /week and sum/spr/aut maybe £10 per/week. People taking hour long showers every day?

How much do you put in your meters per week / month? Size of property and how many occupants?

I feel like i'm getting shafted by E-on on monthly DD, 3 bed house which is empty from 7am - 6pm, Started off paying £60 / month 30 months ago, dd went up to £112 as it got in arrears, fair enough, arrears got cleared, then dd went up to £134 / month in Jan, no arrears, then it's gone up to £160 / month from March! I haven't been there for almost 3 months so i'm using no electric, i'm assured that the heating hasn't been over used and has been on timed (6-7am then 4-9.30pm). Only other electric uses are washing machine (A-rated), maybe once a day and 47" lcd tv till 10pm at latest. no dishwasher etc! When i was on a prepay meter, i was paying £40/ month.

The solution is simple, if you're not in arrears, tell them to reduce the DD or you're switching supplier. They'll oblige.

They're just seeing how many mugs will build up hundreds of pounds of credit that the energy supplier can invest\earn interest from in the short term!

Well unless both of your meters are broken you are paying for what you use. Moving to prepayment meters will just increase your costs

Surely the extra you're paying goes into credit on the account? Or do they just keep the extra?

We pay £65 a month DD into ours each month. We use that amount in the winter but in summer our bill is a lot less so the account builds up credit, which we get back as a lump sum whenever we want.
