What headphones should I go for?

Hi ya

I am looking around at buying myself a decent set of headphones primarily for music on the fly and playing games/music/film on PC and other devices. I have a budget of around £250+

I am considering the Sennheiser Amperior, but I am bit worried maybe the detachable remote is another thing that could possibly go wrong with it.

What would you guys suggest?:cool:

At £250 and liking the idea of the Amperior, you should probably strongly consider the AKG 550. Fantastic set of cans.
Also, the Sennheiser HD25-1 II are cheaper than the Amperior and use the same drivers and general design. Just less flashy but with a new cup. Now, the HD25-1 II are very neutral and precise, so i for one am a little wary of what the new cup will do to the sound.

I do like the look of them, but I have just seen another set, the sennheiser Momentum's any thoughts of those?

Yeah I have been told the Amperior seem to be overpriced for what they are.

But those momentums look like they might be for me. I especially like this feature

Choice of cables for best performance and connectivity to any portable audio (one for standard stereo connection and one for control of Apple products, including a mic). Both can be easily replaced if damaged.

I always have concerns that If I buy an expensive set of headphones after the warranty expires i've just got a expensive set of ear warmers. :p

Most expensive cans have replacement parts readily available. So even if after the warranty is up you can still buy parts to fix your headphones.

I would quite like to try them, but mainly because they look super comfy. I can't comment other than that.

In regards to parts. At the budget you have and if you're looking at Sennheiser, you don't have to worry about replacement parts, they're all over the net.
An advantage of the HD25 series is that every single part has a replacement.

If i were you, see if you can try both the HD25-1 II ( i think the Apple store or some sort of store, used to have the Adidas version) and the AKG 550.

I have both, prefer the 550s for my style of music.

The 550s seem to have a quicker response but are ever so slightly lower in bass response... not by much though.

I prefer the Senns for rock

AKGs for trance / female vocals

There's not much in it - but I swear I get more detail from the AKGs.

They're ridiculously cheap over here... got them for £130 brand new delivered.

From reviews I have been able to gather, The Amperiors have a more aggresive sort of in your face sound with stronger bass, while the Momentium sound is similar but has a very good or near perfect mid range. I like a variety of different music so I am by no means a metal head or rock but do listen on occasion so the mid range sounds like it would be ideal for me.

So far I'm leaning towards the Momentum. I might just bite the bullet! I would love to try them on before I buy but I don't think there is anywhere close to me where I could.

I don't know if you're still looking into getting some of these but I have just bought a pair of the Amperior model for half price from HMV in Leadenhall Market, London. They had a blue cross on so I went to check they were really 30% off and they came up at £129.99 on the till so were actually 50% off. This store is closing down so that might make a difference in the discount :D

Sennheiser HD600s and that leaves enough budget to buy a headphone amp to-go with them - something which especially with headphones that expensive is absolutely required to get the best from them!

I'd get in ears for travel and on ears for home you could get something like sennheiser ie range for travel and beyers for home and have lots of change from £250.
