(you can click on the dvd drive from the boot menu f8)

Do you have a friend that knows about this stuff? I think it would help to have someone show you. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR MOTHERBOARD INSTALLED ON STANDOFFS. The mobo has electrical circuits on the back and you are VERY likely to end up frying your mobo unless your case is made of wood... which it isn't!

I'm sorry to say that If you're struggling with the initial build then dabbling with bios flashing and installing SSDs is perhaps beyond you at this time... You could end up ruining a lot of your components if you're not careful.

"But when I put the other little bits and bobs where I think they should go" hmm, that kind of comment can be scary, im a typical bloke and dont often read instructions, but when it comes to putting together expensive pc bits i break the norm and get my book worm on.

The generics might be very similar, but each and every component has the chance to have its own specific "must do" installation guide.

Makes me think about that horrible metallic thermal past thread that was up a month ago.

Sorted! Took an Hard disk out of my qnap to see if it would be detected, it wasn't put my hand on it and it wasn't spinning which led me to the power.

It was plugged into the socket labelled sata & peripherals but I took it out of there and put the cable into the hole across from it and the hard disk started spinning! Swapped out my SSD and its now installing windows on to it. Hurrah!

Hopefully thats the end of my troubles but I do still have my graphics card to go but I'll install that once my OS in set up.

If you want to hear something scary, I actually work in IT and have done so for 4 years, even have an A+ and other certification.

Scary thought eh?

Thanks for your help for now!

I also missed standoffs my first time. I had never built before, just upgraded. Luckily spotted the second IO did not line up!

Reading the manual is a must when it comes to stuff like this.

Ikea furniture, Ok an idiot can do it, but piecing something together without reading just because you work in IT is a no go. Ask your average mechanic to find a fault with a car and they would be likely to find it, like you in IT. But give him the 50,000 parts the car is made of and say build me a car, he would break more then he would actually put together properly..

In my defense though, the Case had little 2mm risers on each hole, so i presumed nothing would go there. If it was flat I would have thought something was up...

+1 part of the A+ is being a PC technician and they show you how to build a computer ..... or they used to.

Last time I did an IT exam it was mostly about software....

Nobody teaches people about hardware anymore :( Apparently its too technical...
