I've booked a holiday cottage in Bude for a 4 night Mon-Fri stay in May. Thinking of extending our stay over Fri & Sat nights but somewhere different.

I figured since we're doing the North Coast during the week, somewhere on the South would be good. I went to Falmouth a few years ago and St Ives on the same trip, so thinking somwhere new on the South Coast but a bit further up. Perhaps Looe/Polperro? Not been to either and heard good things, but there are loads of other options too.

Just me & The Mrs with our bikes, would prefer to be by or at least near the sea.

Any thoughts?

Looe is very nice but it's extremely hilly if you plan to do some cycling round there. Daytrip wise I can suggest cycling from Bodmin to Padstow on the Camel Trail which is scenic.

Thanks for the tip, Bodmin & Padstow are quite close to Bude where we'll be during the week so will definitely look into that.

I don't mind hills either so Looe could be a goer.

Enjoyed a short break around Fowie last year. Stayed at the Old Ferry at Boddinick. This was the view across the estuary from the B&B:-

(sorry for the poor quality) :o

You'll love PadStein, sorry, mean Padstow! :D I'd never holidayed in the UK Until last year (39 yrs) and totally loved the place we had next to Trevose golf club.

Padstow's about 30 miles from Bude so not *that* close really! There is absolutely bugger all to do in Bude by the way :p

Get up to Mevagissey. Beaudy.
Spotted this on the map, worth a look?

hehe it looked a bit closer on the map! I'll be digging giant holes and making sandcastles on the beach the whole time anyway :D

maaan i love bude, i used to go there every year!!! not been for ages now though!

is the outdoor sea pool thingy still there?
If our summer is any good, il go down this year!

St Ives is well worth the time imo, best seaside place in the UK.
I do really like St Ives, but the Mrs has been before too so thought it would be nice to check out the South Coast. Liking the idea of Looe and the surrounding towns since you guys have given it the nod. Any good experiences with hotels/B&Bs?

Another for Fowey. Been there a couple of times, including taking the missus for a long weekend last year. There are a couple of lovely walks round the area, up along the coast, and a couple of decent places to eat and drink.

I've booked a very nice looking B&B overlooking the harbour in Looe, figured it's close enough to Fowey and Mev so we can probably do it on bikes along the coast.
