Council tax evasion.

I looked in to council tax budget and they don't fund all those things, like Bins emptied, pavements, police service, fire service, street lighting, parks, libraries, schools, public transport, safer taxis, pest control.

Yes, they do. Where did you look? Got a link?

If your local council is not providing these things, then you have a MASSIVE problem, as it is basically why the council exists.

The fact that it is calculated based on your house makes it a property tax. If i remember correctly the property taxes is what caused the peasant revolt in 1381.

The council tax really needs updating. It's based off property values in 1991 with a notional adjustment. It really needs to be adjusted to properly reflect current proper values but the govt won't do that as bills will increase for most people; ignorant people love higher property prices but don't want to pay the higher council tax that go with it.

The peasants revolt was because of the poll tax not property taxation.

Why would bills increase for most people?

Local councils collect X amount in Council Tax.

If there were a revaluation they would still be collecting X amount.

Some households would pay more and some would pay less, depending on the relative value of their property compared to 1991, but the average household would pay exactly the same.

If i recall correctly the formula they used for the uprating of the 91 values had a significant lag and relatively small increases compared to Halifax, Nationwide or Land Registry indices of property prices.

The only fallacy there is the greater good, haha. The government is not for the greater good, the government is for the interests of the individuals benefiting from the government, be that employees of the state or welfare recipients. The politicians make promises to voters that they will get free stuff. The voters vote for more free stuff. The majority of voters are voting based on what will benefit them the most. Democracy is merely the dictatorship of the majority.

I love how it gets twisted in to anti-tax individuals being evil people that don't want support dying disabled children...

You are free to live elsewhere.

This is the crux of the argument, the majority have decided how we will live, as a free individual you are free to live elsewhere in a society that is closer to your ideology.
To live here however, you accept the rules that society imposes on you.

My mother is 58 on £178 a week full time working in warehouse making insulation for boilers, houses etc.
On no benefits because apparently she is above the fresh hold which I find hard to believe.

Rent = £79
Gas and Electric = £60
Bus to work = £19

Leaves her with £20 for food to last the week.

Being unable to eat and live is what is making people act like morons.
Not everyone is on a decent wage.

Why is she working for less than the legal minimum wage?

There are discounts for properties with only one occupant, are there not?

I'm on a single person discount and I still pay over £100 a month for a tiny 2 bed semi. How much you pay varies depending on where you live and the value of your property at some previous date that doesn't reflect the value of said property today. If your property is unoccupied you don't need to pay and if you don't own, you're not really on the hook either. You're still on the hook if you get injured or lose your job. It's pretty crappy system in my opinion.

If you wanna tax property, you should tax unused property too. Force people to offload or at least lease it out rather than having places empty.

What the hell has Canada got to do with British Public Services.

As someone who's worked in the public sector I can confirm you are mostly speaking tosh. Are there lazy middle managers who spend all day attending meetings, sure in some cases but that is my experience of the private sector too.

I'd love to see you get up at 5 am every morning, in all weathers including the recent snow to go and empty people's bins for 9 hours a day without a proper break. Let's see how 'lazy' you think they are then.

I've had the opportunity to go on both refuse collection round and the gritters and what struck mean was the verbal abuse which they have to deal with on a daily basis from the general public. The refuse crews were frequently sworn at when I was out with them, usually because someone didn't have the patience to wait 30 seconds and needed to be past immediately, one guy accusing the driver of damaging his car (rather quickly changed his mind when he was shown the front, side and rear camera system!) and another resident screaming as the crew wouldn't remove his wheelie bin which was full of bricks. On the gritting run we had one guy pull in front of the gritting wagon and come to an abrupt stop, jump out and demand immediate reimbursement for the damage to his paintwork caused by the salt spreading - accusing driver of travelling too fast/spreading wrong quantities. It was an absolute eye opener for me.

Do what they want as long as it doesn't infringe on other peoples rights or liberties. People that smoke are costing me money and pushing up my NHS waiting time.

that is such a stupid comment.

people who smoke pay enough tax to be entitled to nhs treatment tenfold, and its as stupid as saying oh no you broke you leg playing football, why should you be infront of me in the queue when i mearly broke my leg walking down the street? i took no risks, played no physical sports that could lead to this.

seriously...

Exercise has heath benefits, and most people go their whole football playing lives without breaking anything. Smoking? No benefits and you are pretty much guaranteed to have something go wrong with you due to it.

It's not like the excise on tobacco goes to the NHS anyway.

I'm not going to waste my time watching, so please tell me: is that another of those "Freemen" idiots?

Yes. Yes it is.

I'm never sure where to begin with Freemen arguments, it's based on such a fundamental misunderstanding of the law and on such spurious grounds that it's almost pointless even beginning to debate. It picks up distinctions that don't exist, the weird belief that to understand something (i.e. to comprehend it) is the same as "stand under" it and so many other errors that it beggars belief.

If it pays for sensible stuff then fair enough, but when my local Mayor takes 30k out of the kitty to get his/her number plate... then im annoyed. Stupid old people walking around doing little or owt.

It makes me laugh to be honest. Just redefining things all willy-nilly. I can't understand bus shelters because I am in my bedroom? And my birth certificate is actually (a mispelled?) berth certificate?

And these people never use their weird understanding of the law to make anything better, its always to try and shirk responsibility for their actions.

.

Why is it ignorant to love higher property prices?

Selfish maybe, but not ignorant. High property prices are a very good thing for a very large number of people.

I really can't stand this freemen of the land business. All the videos I've seen, the only thing I can think about is why should the Police have to put up with some jerk quoting selected parts of the law as they interpret them... when the Police could potentially be doing something more useful, like catching criminals and not talking to idiots.

I'm not sure what that's got to do with your statement that bills would increase for most people.

If a council area had 100,000 homes and collected £100,000,000 in Council Tax then the average household would pay £1,000 per annum.

If there was a revaluation the same 100,000 homes would still be paying £100,000,000 at an average of £1,000 each.

There would be some winners and some losers depending on how the new valuation bands were set, and how the value of their property had moved relative to the 1991 value, but bills on average would be the same so it's highly unlikely most people would pay more.
