Yet people who study there go on to do very well. I believe the computer science and engineering departments are pretty well linked with the industry.

I wouldn't turn my nose at someone with a degree from there.
 
First Year at UWE . Visited my friend at UoB and fell in love with the City - knew it was where i wanted to study ( Pitty i couldnt make UoB grade requirements but such is life!). Best decision i made

Bristol Nightlife is GREAT, it is very diverse and lots to see and do - im originally from London too so have something to compare it to.

Do it. Bristol is a fantastic city. SOME courses at UWE are highly respected, CRTS/CSE have been churning out top notch comp engineering graduates for literally decades. You'd struggle to find any software company on the south west without at least one CRTS grad there, it's mad.
 
Bristol is fantastic, as everyone else has said, so I won't elaborate. UWE has a low entry tariff (I got onto a politics degree with a BTEC National Diploma in music). :p But all things considered, it's not bad at all. I have been very pleasantly surprised with the standard of teaching, there are many great lecturers in my department (well, there were, five of them left over the course of last summer). Also, I got the oppourtunity to take part in the Erasmus exchange program, which is by far the best thing I have ever done in my life.

For me, it was a fair backup, given that none of the really good institutions wanted a musician (albeit an academically credible one) studying in their politics departments. :p
 
Bristol is a nice city.You will enjoy it, and at least at UWE you won't have an obscene number of spoilt rich kids unlike at the Russell group universities.
 
When I was at UWE the CS dept. had pretty good industry links, the companies up for the 3rd year placement year were, for the most part, pretty well-known. I did my placement working for a well-known Life Assurance company, in Bristol. And that year was the best year I had in Bristol. Living in student digs (in Horfield), but earning (decent-ish) money was amaze-balls.

A nice variety of night-life, shops and handy for surfing trips down to Devon and Cornwall at the weekend in the summer.

The Bierkeller, Fleece and Firkin ("The Fleece"), O2 Academy (Student's Union) should all be places on your radar. If you go.

I visit back home once or twice a year. I do always get a bit nostalgic about the place - the sense of "belonging" in Bristol is like nowhere else - It's a very proud city and also pretty laid back.
 
I studied accounting and finance at UWE. I wasn't sure of the university at first but it had great support and overall I had a great time. You get as much out of it as you put in.

As for Bristol - it was a great three years, plenty of fond memories and I went to plenty of great gigs. (Melt banana/LCD/Blood brothers/death cab/bloc party/65DoS/Sleater-kinney) I remember winning a pair of tickets to the nme awards thing at the academy which came with a wristband for free drinks the night I was due to finish my dissertation. Memories.

Louisiana is also worth a shout for gigs.
 
What's the interview process like at UWE?, I have a Radiotherapy interview there this week. I know there will be a 15 minute interview and a 30 minute timed essay, that's all I know. I'm scared

Bristol is an excellent city. Bath (10 miles away) is quieter and prettier, but consequently less exciting. Uni of Bath are scary good at Rugby, don't know about Bristol or UWE.

Computer science courses can be excellent but are a bit prone to being crap. If you can get into Bristol for it, later employment prospects are likely to be better. If you can't get in or want an easy ride, UWE seems a decent choice.
