SAPPHIRE HD 7950 3GB OC GDDR5

right it did that temps got up to 68 but thats ok i think handles 1150 as well.
fans are only on 40% they dont sound bad until they get to like 80 so thats cool. Ive got another fan coming for the case as well.

Temps are ok. Not wonderful, but acceptable.

1100 is easily good enough.
You could try and lower the voltage slightly now if you're happy with the clock speed. Any higher isn't really going to be noticeable outside of benchmark scores tbh.
Maybe try from 1.175-1.2v at 1100 if you want. You may even be able to get 1100+ at 1.2v.

It's up to you.

Once you're happy with that, you can start with the memory.
I'd recommend upping the memory in 25-50mhz jumps and leaving the memory voltage alone. You should be good for 1400mhz at the least.

i didnt even know there was a memory voltage or an Aux Voltage.

So for the memory we do exactly the same as we just did for the clock speed. is there anything i can test them on after to make sure they stay and dont crash?

Put the volts down and the card didnt want to know so left them at 1.200v

First of all, I'd see if you can get the voltage slightly lower at the 1100 clock. You'll be able to shave a bit off the temps this way. EDIT: 1.2v it is then :)

As for the memory, yeah, just bump them up incrementally in 50mhz lumps until it crashes, then go back down 10-25mhz until it runs stable. You'll probably be fine starting at 1350-1400mhz.

keep with heaven for now, get that running cleanly and then go into BF3.
If BF3 has any issues, follow the above principle of backing off 10-25mhz.

Make sure you save the good OC profile in afterburner.

Shame I missed this had to do the spend time with the missus malarkey!!
Good work petey!! The oc guru! Hehehehe
Sorry I couldn't help damn women! Haha

So how did your oc turn out? What did you get the memory to?
Also save your non volts oc as you can use this most of the time when you don't need that extra from the card and write down the settings incase ab loses them or you have to do a reinstall will save u a lot of hassle.
You have pretty much the same ASIC score as me this is why I recommended u used my clocks and volts as a base.
Glad you got the oc to work 1100 on the core is a nice core clock speed and your now at 7970 speeds!! Goal achieved!!

Hi guys thanks for the help.
I did a little more playing last night and if I see thy horrible path that air ship or dragon one more time I may scream!!!
It was about 3.30am by the time this was over.
I did a few more test popped the volts down to 1185 which albeit not a lot lower than the 1200 still is....
Core was on 1100 and seems fine on that can't remember the memory might be on 1300, I'll need to test some more.
I read some review yesterday of someone getting 1200 and 1600 but I'm not sure i want it to sound like a helicopter in the house.
Card gets up to about 68 degrees I'll put the overlay on and see what it's like temp wise and performance wise.

Good stuff and yes, seeing Heaven loop over and over and over is 'challenging' ;) Still, it's for a good cause right?

Also, your fan speed is only at 40%, so 68°c is pretty good. My 7950 came with the same cooler as yours and I'd agree about when the noise kicks in. It's not super loud imo though.

I think you may need to alter that sig a bit now eh? ;)

No way I'm not altering that sig the tutorial for altering the sig is huge.....

You've got the same card?? I use headphones to game with its the wife who will have to put up with the air craft taking off. I'm tempted to trim down the sides of the case to allow some more air flow. I have as I said a new fan coming so ill stick that in. My theory is cold air pushed in from the bottom and taken out at the top.

I'll try and actually play today to see how stable it stays. I'm still unsure as to why there is no auto tune that would be easier i could have fiddled from there!

I had the 950mhz edition with the same cooler. It used a 7970 reference PCB with 6+8pin pcie sockets for whatever that was worth...
My asic score was 87.3% so I only needed 1.131v for 1150mhz. It didn't like going much above 1150mhz regardless of temps or voltage though.

What case do you have? You may want to set up a custom fan profile in afterburner first.
Manually find the max % point where fan noise is tolerable and then set it to ramp up to that speed when needed. It's quite easy. All you have to do is plot points on a graph.

Hahaha yeah I get the same feeling when testing its more the music that does my head in!
But yeah seeing that same bloody ship over and over lol not to forget those cobblestones at the start they just remind you of the pain your about to enter! Hahaha

Yeah 1200 is possible I managed to get mine stable at 1200/1550 but tbh it's massive overkill and personally I think your pushing the card a little to hard for to be honest very little if any In game difference the 1100/1150 core 1450 memory seems to be the sweetspot that everyone seems to be running on there 7950's.

As petey said read that tutorial and change that sig your now a proud member of the oc brigade!! Lol

Now just don't get obsessed with scores and higher clock speeds!! Or do if its your thing!
Glad we could help mate more petey more so than me but I'm glad you got your card stable and running nicely I will say some games (more demanding) may make your oc unstable which is just a matter of putting a few clicks on the volts I know sleeping dogs can be like this or you might be fine only one way to tell BEGIN THE GAMING!!!!!!!and enjoy your new card.

Good shout on the custom profile on ab petey.
In fact I may even do this myself when I eventually get home from work just been using auto profiles a little cooler running card can never be a bad thing!

ive stuck to
core voltage 1188
power limit 20%
Core Clock 1100
Memory 1350
that seems to be stable for Heaven anyways, doesnt seem to go above 68 degrees so i have to be happy with that

I have a Shinobi Bit Fenix case http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-045-BX
im using a Silver Stone 750 PSU
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-010-NC cooler for my i7 2600k over clocked and stable at 4.5ghz
12gb Vengeance Ram 1600 cant fit in 16gb due to huge cooler
P8P67-m Pro Mother Board, its the small one hence the lack of space (i used to have a tiny water cooled case but it didnt fit my 7950 in so i sold it and the water cooling stuff).
Using
Two of this at the top and side, back is bringing in cool air to the CPU and the top takes it out http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...w=&pup_c=pla&gclid=CO3D7I2VmrUCFdLJtAodGxgAfQ
or could be this.. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...ktdetailseite&emcs2=FG-030-SY&emcs3=FG-032-SY

300GB Raptor Hard Drive i believe its a SSD hybrid, but ive been wrong and a lovely LG blu ray player!

The Fan profile, is that a benefit on running it on Auto? i dont mind the noise too much i sometimes stick it on 100 just to let the wife know im playing.....

Idle Temps of the CPU is 29-34 depending on my warmth of house and how long its been on
Motherboard is usually idle on 29-30
GPU idle is 29-33

When being used - IE GAMING
CPU -40
Motherboard - 35
GPU - 68

some pics... snoooze. Ive moved the 7950 up to under the cooler its a 1 degree warmer but its 16 x not 8 x

wouldnt it be better to suck the air in from the front of the case, and blow it out towards the back to where the exhaust fan case is?

as it looks like the back exhaust case fase is blowing the air out, and the one on the cpu cooler is trying to blow it the other way through the cpu cooler

Oh god, a Shinobi... That's what I started with. Looks lovely, has crap airflow :(
I could get up to 10c drops on the core and 15c drops on the VRMs just by taking off the side panel. Had plenty of fans in there too and tried lots of configurations.

Don't panic though, your temps seem ok, although your airflow setup is wrong :)

Turn the the cpu fans around, so that they're blowing towards the back of the case.
Better still, swap them for the scythe fans.

You have the scythe 1850's . If you had the 5400rpm one, you and your wife would know about it ;)

If you don't mind running the GPU fan at 100%, then stick with it.
If you want it to be quieter while providing most of that performance and saving you the trouble of manually setting it each time, set up a custom profile and it'll change automatically when needed.

You should know that running 3 sticks of ram means that it won't be in dual channel mode. This can compromise it's performance. Two or four sticks is the way to go, but if you're happy with it as it is, don't worry about it.

Oh, and while you're there, tuck those cables behind the motherboard tray. Use the guide holes in the case to route them.

you could fit a 120mm (i think) fan at the bottom to blow up into the gpu as well to help cooling.

on my case, i have the same amount of fans blowing in as blowing out to keep it flowing

i bought it because it was a good price and had good reviews for air flow :(

So have the CPU blowing out not in? what will this achieve? im not being funny or anything. Curious as its blowing out cold air. figured keeping the cold air in the case would be better.

As i say i may mod the side panel with a mesh side to allow some air flow through it.
i never thought about changing the vans before for the better ones, getting those clips on the heat sink was a bitch, lack of space with those fans so close!

Im running the 3 sticks because i cant fit the 4th in, they are for sale on a well known auction site and i will get two sticks of 8gb instead. Just awaiting them to sell first.

i dont run with the GPU On 100 i just cool it down on it, i'll have a look at a custom fan profile in a bit. Babies calling
