Halifax useless with fraud

Perhaps the department that investigates fraud isn't open 24/7 at various banks, but they all have 24 hour lines in case you need to report it, or your card is stolen.

Dont mean to hijack the thread but Im just trying to sign up to Noddle and Im not sure how safe it is having to input my card details?

I would have thought once you notified them, they locked said account down. Even if they couldn't confirm this to you. I would be very surprised if this wasn't the case.

Only had one occurrence of fraud and I'm with Halifax, although it was a couple of years ago they handled the situation great.

Somehow someone got my card details and decided to send £1000 to Nigeria and bought a pizza from some London takeaway (I live in West Yorkshire). Halifax themselves though caught all this before I did, locked down the account and notified me - reversed/reimbursed all the fraudulent transactions and set me up with a new card within a week. Only issue I had was having to go directly to the bank to withdraw 'till the new card arrived but not a big deal at all.

I was pretty impressed though with how it was handled with basically no input from myself other than to confirm I wasn't sending probably some prince money :p

Halifax stopped me from buying all my PC components from here :D

I guess a sudden £900 looked dodgy.

Yeah had the same happen, not here but large purchases - usually a quick phone call and it's all good. Typically happens when something doesn't fit your "usual" pattern (location, time, price, etc..). An annoyance but one that I like :)

RBS were terrible, told me that I was lying!

Finally got it sorted after a few months and then closed my account straight away.

They wouldn't tell me what it referred to (account/loan/credit card etc). I asked for what ever it was to be put on hold/locked until i could speak to the fraud department but they told me they couldn't do anything. The most useless banks i have ever dealt with.

halifax were also poor when my xbox account got hackd to buy ms points for fifa, they just said we cant do anything. luckily microsoft were good about it.

I dont really know why people get their panties in a twist over bank fraud, likes its some personal slight, its not like being burgled. The Bank gives you your money back so who cares

Not the point really is it, yeah ok so they give you the money back but its the inconvenience of having the account frozen, DD stopped, no direct access to your money if it hasn't all been taken. Someone tried to access money from my wifes account, what alerted the bank was a few out of the ordinary low money transactions at some takeaway in Birmingham and they tried to spend over £900 in John Lewis so the bank blocked it. It was bad enough getting new cards and the account re-activated and having to travel to the not so local branch to withdraw cash.

So yes i can see why people get "their panties in a twist"

Natwest will give out your money to pretty much anyone. HSBC are a bit reluctant to give money to anyone. I'm confident that HSBC will be excellent if someone attempts to defraud me, but periodically I struggle to get money out of my own account. Security vs usability and so forth.

I spoke to the fraud department on Monday. The women didnt really fill me with any confidence as im not sure she knew what she was doing. She checked both banks and i didnt have any products with them. She couldnt explain the letter i received and requested i take it in to store. I basically said whats the point as they wont speak to me about it and it would be a waste of time. Overall a complete waste of time and money (phone bill).

Thanks.
