Hi all i currently have in my setup a Sapphire HD 6950 "Dual Fan Edition" 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card.
This is the one with the bios switch to change the shaders into a 6970.

Now im thinking of the near future of doing a 3 monitor setup (Not 100% as yet)

Would I be better off just keeping the card that I have or would there be any benefit from having the 3gb 7950 card??

Thanks guys and look forward to your replies....

More VRAM for more monitors - 3gb will be fine for a 3 monitor setup

VRAM doesn't come into it with only the grunt from one GPU especially a 6950. So the extra 1GB won't be of any benefit.

(I've extensively tested triple screen)

That said, the 7950 is a good card for triple screen and should allow you to get a second one as and when you wish fairly cheaply.

A 7950/7970 due to the wider bus. Cheaper helps too :D.

single or crossfire mate?

Depends on whether the games will benefit from crossfire. It's not as simple an answer to say crossfire or not. General rule of thumb is that more is better though :D.

Demanding games will require you to turn settings down on one GPU. Two GPUs will be fine on nearly all games with maximum settings.

Ok, if i tell you that i mostly play racing games, so thats the likes of Dirt, F1, NFS and some sports type games like FIFA, NFL etc, does that help somewhat.
I notice that on a lot of benchmarks that the games above, with exception of Dirt 3, dont really get a mention. Can i assume then that they are not as demanding as the likes of Batman, Metro, Battlefield and the likes?

I think we've had this conversation before... :) perhaps...

Anyway, to be honest: I don't really know. I don't play those games so I can't say for definite but they are undemanding compared to Battlefield 3 and Metro 2033 so should be OK on one GPU.

What I would do, is get a 7950 (a 7970 is not worth the price premium over the 7950 IMO) and test it across three screens using the games you play. If performance is OK then celebrate with your condiment of choice. If not then do the usual troubleshooting steps and get a second card if you think the extra FPS is worth the cost.
