*** The Official BlackBerry Z10 & Q10 Thread ***

I'm not sure where you're getting your figures from but the figures from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech are saying RIM sold 6.5% of all smartphone sales in the 12 weeks up to Christmas.

Market penetration or installed base aren't want kills a company. It's lack of growth and if you look at RIM's share of smartphone sales over the last 3 years it looks pretty dire for any investor.

Unless they can produce a significant uptick, and I'm talking 100%+ YoY growth on 2012, they are finished. Simple as that.

The 8millon UK users comes from Blackberry themselves. Obviously they know exactly how many UK users are using their devices due to the way their network works.

The 12% figure is from an article yesterday in the Guardian. That's for Q3 2012. I think you're figure was Q4, and only represents new sales, that's not market share.

I understand what you're saying but IMO Businesses don't always have to grow and chasing endless growth isn't necessarily the best course of action. In fact many businesses would be better off if they were smaller. Kodak is prime example of this, and was often used as a case study in Business School.

Blackberry need to boost revenues, they only turned a profit this year due to tax breaks. Again businesses don't always have to make profit. It's all about what the owners want from the business. I'll admit most owners/investors(usually funds) are greedy and looking for nothing more than high returns.

I don't know who the majority shareholders are of Blackberry, so can't comment as to their motivation.

I did actually seriously consider buying one to sell on ebay, but having checked some prices and done the maths it's not really worth it. Cheapest you can get the phone for is £36/month for 24 months, so total cost of £864. Say I subtract £240 from that (to take into account what I would have been paying on Giffgaff over that period), that means I'd have to get over £624 excluding ebay and Paypal fees to turn a profit. Having looked at recently completed listings on ebay it seems to sell for between £550-750, so the best you can hope for is under £100 profit once you take fees into account, and you also risk barely breaking even. You'd think with us getting the phone first out of the entire rest of the world there'd be more demand for it! Rich Americans, or Arab sheiks wanting to be the first with a white Z10, or whatever...

You can buy it on pay as you go on o2 for £479.99, which makes it hard for me to understand why people are spending +£540 on ebay for items that only ship to the UK?

Ok finally got round to ordering my Z10, was umm'ing and ahh'ing about whether to get black or white but in the end i got the black one. White one i do like but feel it will get dirty too easily especially the back as it seems to be made out of some sort of plastic.

Had a play with one the other day, spent a bit of time and absolutely loved it. Thought it flowed pretty well, pardon the pun:p. But i like how everything is just located in the hub part of the OS, no longer have to open messaging, emails or bbm icons..its all there in one place.

Looking forward to getting it, should get it tommorrow sometime so i know ill be spending the day messing around with it.

Will report back with pics and a mini review of the Z10.

CPW are doing it for around £480 sim-free.

Phones 4 u are also doing it £480 sim free but seems like you can only buy them online, most of the stores ive been into the past few days are only selling them on contract.

LOL no point, might as well keep it in here tbh. It wouldnt be much of an official thread as most in here seem to only concentrate on Androids and Windows phones.

Possibly out of stock in their local stores and they can't wait? My local Phones4u said they only sell them on contract cause they don't have enough supply.

Unfortunately this sub forum seems to have been abandoned with regards to moderation, have reported many duplicate threads etc. Yet nothing is done, time to sack the current mod and assign someone else and/or hire a new one :p

I've been converting a few Android apps, works surprisingly well. It's only really apps that use Google Maps that I've had an issue with.

Also as well as doing it using the proper Blackberry tool there is this site as well: http://apk2bar.unker.net/ - this one is useful if there is something in the Android manifest which BB10 doesn't support but isn't a major requirement (ie. an app that uses Google maps but it isn't really necessary to the actual main use of the app).

Once you've converted the apk to a bar then use ddpb installer to sideload it (turn on the debugging options in your phone settings).

I swear phones 4 u are a bunch of inept muppets really, so i placed my order for the Z10 sim free yesterday on their website. Got a confirmation email from them soon after saying that they received my order. So thought ok ill have it by tommorrow ie today latest. Anyhow i get a call from them saying that they cant fulfill my order as they have run out of stock and wont get any in till sometime next week. Anyhow i said to them thats fine, ive been waiting long enough so an extra week wont hurt to wait.

Anyhow an hr later i get another call from them saying that my order has been cancelled:confused:. I asked them why and they couldnt give me a proper answer, something along the lines that their ordering system automatically cancelled my order. So i said just put the order in again, to which they said that its now £550  and that id have to pay that price in order to get my Z10. Suffice to say i told them to go **** themselves.

What a bunch of ****ing retards they are. I had one bad experience with them a few yrs back and promised myself that id never ever buy a phone from them. But thought seeing as they are doing it for a good price, ill give them another go lol. Sadly it seems like they are just as stupid and retarded as they were a few yrs ago when i last had my run in with them.

Oh well means that ill have to do without the Z10 for a little while longer. Seems like CPW have stopped selling them sim free as well and they have no idea when they will be selling them sim free. Other places on the net are doing the Z10 for £500+ which i think is far too much money for the handset imho. Im loathed to spend £480 let alone £500 on the phone.

Not a happy bunny:mad:

Phones 4U in 'being hopeless' shocker. :p

£550 though? Really? BlackBerry can't allow that surely, they won't get far if the Z10 costs more than the iPhone 5!

I bought one on day one and am loving it so far. Going from my beloved Bold keyboard to a touchscreen was my major worry, but the thing is incredible. It's already learnt a lot of my standard words and phrases and with the ability to flick up words while I'm typing, I'm lightning fast when writing messages! Having the words appear above the letter you're going towards anyway is just so intuitive. Well played Blackberry...

Still waiting for some of the major apps to appear though. I'm not an app whore though, so there's generally very little I need. However, I do want something that'll show my data usage - I'm worried about exceeding my 1Gb limit!

Now patiently waiting for the Playbook OS10 upgrade...

Vodafone messed me around. Canceled everything waiting for the Q10 and going elsewhere. Have had nothing but pain with vodafone.

It seems that BlackBerry still aren't bothering with Norway so I won't even be able to try one for ages. :(

This is iPhone country anyway! :p
