Ideal temps for an overclocked i5 3570k?

Hi everyone :)

I am just wondering about maximum temps I should be looking at on an i5 3570k overclocked from 3.2ghz to 4.5ghz?

I ran prime 95 for 3 hours and there were no errors or problems at all. Whilst watching the temps the maximum was 78 degrees but on average it was about 70 degrees.

I slightly worry I used too much thermal paste as it was the first time I had ever used it and I have read some could have come out the sides when the cooler as added. If those temps are fine then I am happy. Should I investigate the thermal paste and remove some?

Thank you for any advice!

Sounds ok, on mine also at 4.5ghz, i have one core maxing at 75c.

With paste, you only need a tiny rice grain sized amount.

Well I definately used too much paste then. As I am running at that temp should I leave it or try to remove some?

Also if I do clean it up andremove the cooler can I put it back onto the same paste or will this create air bubbles? Basically best to clean it all off buy some new and do it again?

Sorry for all the questions :D

78c is fine in stress testing, your unlikely to hit those sort of temps in normal use. In game, im hitting the mid 50's. Ivybridge cpu's are a bit hotter running than intels previous generation.

If you do decide to clean the paste off, you need to use a fresh application. After youve cleaned both the cpu and cooler.

I'll probably leave it as that temp isn't bad.

For my own knowledge a game like Far Cry 3 or the upcoming Crysis 3, how much stress would they put on a machine compared to prime95?

Thanks for the info :)

Couldnt say about those games tbh. But i play a lot of bf3. Temps hit the mid 50

this is a pretty demanding game.

You able to post some of you're BIOS settings for that overclock?

I've just got a very similar build and struggling to even get 4.5 stable @ 1.25v on CPU and Extreme LLC. (at least with temps sub 90)

Thanks in advance.

I have a modded chip on water so a 4.5 OC runs pretty cool at 30-35 idle and 55-65 load

allthough I have ran it at 4.9 but that got a bit hot :o

sry for the double post I'm not paying attention tonight

Thanks TwsT, 4.9, pretty good. Did you delid it? Once i went over 1.275v, the temps started to climb a bit. 69c max on anything below that. My case airflow is extremely poor which doesnt help. Bitfenix shinobi xl, very closed front panel design.

yes mine is de lidded with MX4 instead of the original paste I'm too tight to buy that liquid metal stuff.

I have however voided my warranty haha
