Hi, probably a stupid question tbf, but a mate of mine reckons you can hook your PC up with custom cooling by using tumble dryer tubing. In the winter hang it out of your window and the summer put it in an icebox whilst connected to your PC.

Is that feasible/safe/doable?

Simply theoretical, I doubt I'll be doing it but I was just wondering like. :p

Condensation problems aside yep it's completely doable. Some people also use the same theory to duct cool air in from outside the case i.e cut a hole in the side over where the hs is then put some ducting in to supply it with cool air.

So an icebox wouldn't really be safe but you can use it for outside cooling :D.

Thing is, if its effective then it's really good cooling for the sake of a couple of quid, could always hook it up to a desk fan and let the air cycle through the tubing and into the case.

I think somebody on here should do it and post results. ;)

Not worth the trouble. Save your efforts and focus on buying a decent air cooler and case.
Feeling experimental, set up your pc for water cooling. Far less riskier ;)

I remember seeing it done quite a lot back in the day, but it died out as better solutions became cheap and easily available.
That was more in terms of the ducting leading outside rather than into an ice box, I've never seen that.

Time you've spent the money on a metal
Hole cutter to drill a hole for your ducting you'd be better off buyin a
Water cooling kit.

you might aswell just buy a 4inch diameter hole inline fan and some ducting if you want to be crazy like that

or just buy a decent case that can house a good amount of case fans alternatively remove the side from your case and point an oscillating fan

I did this years ago with an athlon 2800xp that I had running at 2.67ghz, Hose coming from outside into the case and then back out again with fans attached to the ends of the hose. Great temps in winter but as said easier and cheap methods are now available.
