Chris Huhne to be charged for perverting the course of justice

i guess i just kinda expect the best from the mps, as they represent their constituencies and in a position of power i would prefer for them not to be corrupt. same with the police i guess

I don't get it.
An MP gets caught doing just doing what about every married couple would do if approaching a ban due to a build up of penalty points.

I'm not saying its a trivial issue. But come on I see my local rag every day filled with court reports of men driving without MOT, insurance, tax and get a £200 fine. Driver causes death by dangerous driving gets a suspended sentence.

A big WTF??? Speechless.

Because crimes against the legal establishment are more important that crimes against the small people (to the legal establishment).

It's all so utterly pointless and unnecessary. He got done a week or two later for using his mobile while driving, got the points and was banned anyway. With a record like his, the roads are a safer place without him on them!
He's lied about it for ten years, used every legal dodge available to keep it out of court and only when the game was finally up and he had no other choice, did he plead guilty.
Good riddance to the lying *******.

What I still don't understand was why Vikcy Pryce dobbed him in (thereby implicating herself and she is now in the dock). I know he had an affair and can see why she'd want revenge but isn't this cutting your nose off to spite your face a little?

I am not expert on woman but they can be pretty nasty if they have a grudge.

They will both get sent to prison I bet having read the latest BBC report she does sound like she wanted him taken down..

email exchanges between Sunday Times political editor Isabel Oakeshott and Ms Pryce from 1 March 2011 as they discussed how to publicise the crime.

Ms Oakeshott told her a "major two-part article" would inflict "maximum and perhaps fatal damage on Chris if you are prepared to be open", Mr Edis told the court.

Mr Edis said Ms Oakeshott told her it would fulfil her dual objective - "bringing Chris down without damaging your own reputation in the process".

Ms Pryce responded in email: "I definitely want to nail him. More than ever, I would love to do it soon."

Ms Oakeshott later replied: "The bottom line is that this story will bring Chris down if you are prepared to go on the record, with the minor risk this carries.

"I think you can make yourself out to be very much the honourable one, saying it has very much been on your conscience ever since, saying you knew it was wrong but you were bullied into it."

Mr Edis went on: "Mr Huhne was charged, he did resign, yesterday he pleaded guilty, he's not a cabinet minister any more. The plan worked."

The problem being the Journalist told her that there was 'minor risk' from doing this when in actual fact it seems that its likely she will be convicted.

Leave the bugger alone. Wasting a jail space on him is a complete farce. He has clearly sufferers as a result and I find it hard to believe he has not learned his lesson.

Don't see why everyone is saying deserved/idiot/foot/haha etc. We'd all do the same if we were 3 points from a ban.

If I was 3 points from a ban, I wouldnt be speeding, especially if I was in the public eye. And now we have Clegg and others saying how he was one of the better politicians? God help us all.

Also the journalist prompting that she was bullied into it, sounds like it could end worse for her than him to me.

For those questioning how it could possibly result in a life sentence, perverting the course of justice isn't only relevant to misrepresenting a speeding offence, it could be giving a false statement regarding a murder. While when concerning a minor case it seems a bit harsh, the seriousness of the perversion will generally relate to what was done and the scale to which it prevented justice being carried out.

Why would you expect anyone who's been convicted of such a minor crime to be sent to a maximum security prison anyway?

you get sent to the nearest nick after sentencing. there are loads of cat d prisoners in cat A & B prisons. quite often for the duration of the sentences.

oh, and they can just ship you half way across the country at a whim too

This. The whole point of the CJ system is that the jury should have a reasonable belief that the the people in the witness box are telling the truth (obviously many aren't, but that's a whole other issue). This means that the Court tends to get VERY strict with people who commit what are essentially crimes against the Court. This is why Contempt of Court can result in effectively an indefinite sentence as well. The idea to make people less likely to mess the Court about.

what a muppet for lying in his initial plea, but seriously not worth sending him to prison, its only damaged his own reputation it doesnt have any harm outside of this, waste of resources

His new partner is a right looker. Spiky hair + some very manly looking clothes (but no chequered shirt).......did she use to bat for the other team?
