All dogs to be chipped by 2016

I think Shoot1st is taking offence at the possibility the Government are calling him irresponsible.

Maybe the Government should have said they are making plans to make all owners MORE responsible.

There's a few things I don't like about it which I have already mentioned in this thread, not just what you have posted above.

I am sure I am not alone in my concerns.

Maybe

But I believe your concerns are unfounded( unfounded maybe harsh erm uncorroborated/ unsubstantiated ). I also believe a may be in a better position to judge.

Hence why my pets are both chipped and those of my vet are also chipped

Chipped as in Microchipped implants
Rather than made to go faster:D

ok, well I believe your opinions are 100% flawed, we'll let others make their own minds up.

I would allow myself to be chipped, I see no health risk in it.

Only reason I wouldn't want to be chipped is being tracked and theft. Otherwise having a chip that lets you drive your car, get into your house, and spend your money without having to carry crap around with you doesn't seem like a terrible idea.

14 people dead in 7 years (not many of them being a baby either). When you think of the number of dogs in this country, it hardly seems a major issue and does point to most dog owners being responsible and/or most dogs not being dangerous in the first place.

I wouldn't go that far. The dogs themselves are often not big enough nor are inclined to fight you to the death and I imagine the human would generally win if they keep their wits about them. You need to be talking about pure attacks and even then I've been attacked by a dog whilst the owner walked slowly towards quietly yelling "$name, don't do that". Wasn't really a big deal but I was pretty annoyed at the owner not running after the thing.

Ok In my experience whilst being involved in the veterinary industry in-particular Veterinary diagnostic laboratories. I've not come across an issue with Microchip implants.

Your mobile phone is the perfect tracking device.

Yep, it'll perfectly tell you I'm at home even when I'm not. You seem to be missing the key point that having your phone with you is completely optional. :p

What is it you do exactly?

Contractually I'm not allowed to say. But we work quite closely with Defra, BSAVA and AHVLA, RSPCA, PDSA and various diagnostic Labs around the UK.

I may have come across a bit harsh before. It wasn't meant as such. Its just the amount of Chinese whispers/ old wives tales and scaremongering that goes along with the veterinary industry.

You wont believe the amount of "My vet killed my pet" stories we hear when in fact after a PM it was a massive tumour or a twisted colon or a toy car.

I'm not saying I'm privy to all the answers however I'm convinced I would have heard about the issues had there been any. especially knowing what we are privy to

OK, you're not allowed to say (should I be donning my tin foil hat?), are you allowed to tell me what qualifications you have that allow you to accurately diagnose whether an implant has caused any complications to an animal?

Do you think that you working within the veterinary industry means that you may have a conflict of interests?

So you're not a vet but you know someone who is?

Not at all.

Although without saying exactly what we do I can see why you would think so.

Suffice to say if what your worrying about turns out to be true I'd make more money doing what we do.;)

It's ok, I'm just trying to establish whether you repeatedly saying you work in a vet, etc, etc, has any validity, it appears it does not.

For all I, or anybody else, knows you could sweep the floors of those laboratories.

The following statement must be qualified...

''Ok In my experience whilst being involved in the veterinary industry in-particular Veterinary diagnostic laboratories. I've not come across an issue with Microchip implants.''

with...

"Please note, I am not a vet, I do not have a single veterinary qualification, so my above statement/opinion should be taken with that in mind."

We wouldn't want anybody being mislead here would we :)

That is totally unfair because some of us who work on the bottom rung of the ladder are actually connected to all staff in the department and know what goes on.
For instance part of my job is compiling data that may have been asked for Freedom Of Information requests and I then have to consult with the professionals so I may not be a <insert professional title> but I know the answers.

I just wanted to make sure that it is clear that he is not a vet and has no veterinary qualifications. I would hate people to read this thread - maybe worried about their own dog - thinking that Matty is qualified to state the opinions he has.

He is entitled to his opinion, but as has been established, that is all it is; an opinion.

I mean no disrespect to floor sweepers, or people on the bottom rung, I'm there myself and have swept many a floor.

Edit to add - ...and besides, a bit of his own medicine will no doubt do Matty the world of good.

The dog should be chipped and then a DNA profile of the dog with it as well.

That way the local council can sample the ****e that is left behind by idiot owners and they can then be found out and fined.

Overkill!!! But it really hacks me off when I walk my dog in the morning to see a shed load of crap left behind by owners... and in a relatively affluent area as well!?!?!

In that case, you must also put a qualification on the opening post. You stated "Plus there's the health issues associated with the chips"

Make sure you put a disclaimer on the bottom as well. Don't forget to cite source, date, and the scientific paper etc.

Its a forum, not a medical textbook here.
