I've been meaning to ask this for so long...

A few years back I seemed to have developed an allergy to whatever my mouse is made from...or coated in. I get blisters on my palm and fingers :(

The first mouse that caused it was I think the Microsoft Black Wired Optical, since then I have been using the Logitech MX518.

A way I got around this, was to cover the mouse in some hypo-allergic tape and coat it with hypo-allergic nail varnish (to seal it and stop the tape peeling off). But this made it rather slippery, and not particularly comfortable.

I've also tried wearing a DermaSilk Therapeutic Glove, which would be perfect if it wasn't also very slippery!

I was just wondering whether there were any of you out there how have similar problems with mice and have found a mouse which doesn't cause any this?

Cheers

Well, when I was a teenager I was lucky enough to become allergic to my guitar strings as pretty much all of them are made from or coated in Nickel !

Then I became allergic to something in liquid soap ... most probably this substance: Methylchloroisothiazolinone

A neighbour who's daughter who also has this problem, except much worse than me, gave me this article recently from the Daily Mail

So...I'm not alone regarding the soap. But I'm pretty sure liquid soap has weakened my skin and caused the problem with my mouse :(

fap less.

In all seriousness, it's weird when you realise you're allergic to something.

6 years ago, portugal, 10 days into the 2 weeks holiday my entire body became infested with hives. Flew home, was gone within 12 hours.

Just this week, changed my shower gel (from nivea to lynx apollo), HIVES, stopped using the day after, not a problem/itch since!

Yeah mouse wise it's a bit different, sure I could get a wooden mouse, but not a gaming one. I can't even use am 360 pad with out getting a reaction!

Of course it's contact dermatitis, you patronising GIT!

Thanks for being sooooooooo helpful

I was being helpful. You've been 'meaning to ask this for ages' but didn't have the mental agility to Google the problem?

 back at you.

BTW, I also have contact dermatitis, I talk to my GP.

So I've just been looking for a new mouse which hopefully wouldn't make my hand dissolve...and i come across this thread.

I am sorry gillywibble, about replying in a rather sarcastic manner.

I guess I was rather wound up by twist3d0n3's comment.. I mean, how old are you? And then mrk - really sad... especially considering your age.

I used to love this forum, people ask for help, you help them. Ask for help and you get really helpful replies... or so I used to.

Had this (nowhere near as bad as the pic)

Itchy sometimes?

And yes stufflol, it starts off like that, itches like hell, skin cracks and flakes off and it can be extremely painful like it is now ....
Thank you Logitech for whatever you make your ****** mice from!

Could this be caused by any other repetitive rubbing actions you regularly experience whilst using your computer?

Maybe just paint the thing and see whether you get an adverse reaction?

As for it being so slippery, how about painting an old mouse with textured emulsion or some other textured coating and see how you get on with it?

Or maybe felt? I bought a pack of those adhesive pads you stick to the underside of furniture to stop it scratching the floor, it was only about a quid for about 100 and the square ones would fit snugly together.

Would a trackball be better for you? It's obviously not going to be ideal if you want to use the mouse for games but it might mean less time in contact with the mouse and the trackballs are usually made of a different plastic type so that may cause less irritation?
