Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

Been running around the desert and cove area to the south for a while leveling different familiars and seeing which i prefer. Has anyone noticed that some familiars level faster than others? I put one the Monolith on Oliver and a Boogley-Boo on the girl (forget her name now). After one fight Boogley-Boo went up four levels and the Monolith only went up three.

I think... I can't check now but maybe it's to do with types of familiars to the user? Each familiar has an icon somewhere, I think it's the upper left of the familiar status, saying what type it is? (There's a specific word but cannot remember it!) So the Mite has an armoured looking icon?

When switching around familiars to who uses what, there are 3 tiny icons above the 3 slots for familiars, these are the familiar icons that are best suited for that user. They animate when you hover a "matched" type to that user, so the soldier icon thingy animates when you put the Mite on Oliver. I'm pretty sure it gets some bonuses and I guess XP is also part of this? I read this somewhere in the game but cannot for the life of me remember where but I wouldn't be surprised if it was this...

edit: Could be wrong though, apparently they have different growth rates?

Only about 7 hours in and just reached the 2nd town. Done all the quests so far and generally just pottering around the world map enjoying how nice it all looks.

My partner keeps looking over wondering what I see it in but hell it's amazing.

It doesn't seem to do anything particularly new or unique but everything it does is just done very well, very neat and tidy systems, runs along at a nice pace, looks stunning and has a nice simple story that is enjoyable enough but doesn't keep changing it's mind every few hours trying to be complex.
The villain is in there right at the start and you have a clear goal from the off.

The familiar system takes me back to Shin Megami tensei Nocture in a way which is of course 100% a good thing. It gets compared to pokemon more but I compare it to Nocture/Lucifers Call which is one of my favorite RPGs ever.

The battle system is actually quite challenging at times with the timings etc.

Really great game.

Have any of you notice that the cutscenes stutter? I have a 120hz monitor, haven't tried it on the projector yet but it looked like a lot of frames were being dropped during the animation. Really put me off.

I'll have a look at that later when i get back on it, cheers.
I had a feeling it was something to do with that but i wasn't 100% sure.

Nope, playing in 1080p on a LCD TV and i havent noticed anything that would get on my nerves and im a sucker for framerate drops.

I have found the animated cutscenes to have a less than smooth quality. The rendered ones are fine though.

Yea i think its this, after checking just now they weren't the right type to gain bonuses.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed but the higher level the familiar is before you metamorph them the higher the base stats of the new level one form.
I checked the Lagoon Naiad at lvl16 and if i morphed her she would have had stats of: Atk-10, Def-19, Mag.Atk-53, Mag.Def-52, Acc-23, Eva-38. After she had hit lvl17 i checked again and her Mag.Atk, Mag.Def, and Acc had all increased by one point.

Gonna check with some other familiars too.

Just over 30 hrs in now and lvl 40 with Oliver, trying to complete as much side questing as I can before I continue with the story. Really liking it but just wish it was bigger, feeling like I'm going to run out of meaningful content quite soon if I continue with the story, Still best game on ps3 I've played in ages.

This........

Game........

Is....................

AWESOME :D loving every second of it.

Same here! It reminds me of windwaker and pokemon, shats bad about that :P

Im about 11-14 hours in (had to replay the first 3 hours due to ps3 ylod so ran through that in under and hour)

I find my self pushing on excited to get to the next anime cutscene

I'm lvl 56 now, I've got the day off which means I will probably finish the story today, so far loved every minute of it... I don't play many JRPG's but now have the urge to play more, problem is I doubt many will be as good as this.
