Have most people here worked most of their working lives?

I have worked full time from the almost the day i left school..
(I worked full time now for 28 years :( )

And i use to work for part time jobs while at school (paper round and co-op shelf filling)

I've noticed that too, which is why I don't often mention being off. (even though my heart is trashed now) What makes me laugh is you and I, have probably worked longer than most of them have lived.

Many people are frustrated with the subculture of the underclass entitlement complex but if anything, we'd rather deal with them so we can give people like you more. Now there are a couple of special people, that can't be helped, but for the most part you're only adding fuel to the fire attributing yourself to the hate when it's clearly not about people like you, nor people like dimple.

For the topic, I didn't really work through Uni and lived on loans and a bursary I got for having non-working parents. Since then, I've worked the entire time but it's only been 6 years so far, so I'm a ways from paying my debt to society.

Personally I hope not to work my entire "working" life, but I plan do that by earning my time off and paying for it myself. I've had about 2 months in total betweens jobs so far (by choice, without claiming) and I'll probably increase that now that I contract.

School - College (Twice) - year out (not claiming anything but just bumming around with the folks) then pretty constant work till now (With the odd few month breaks moving from different sectors or when temporary positions ended early) - worked more than I would have liked to be honest (I have better things to do with my time, reading, learning & charity work).

I wish I could from job to job without any breaks (when applying for jobs in the same field/using skills) - in my area the recruitment process usually takes a couple of months (at best) - with 3 interviews, competency tests (maths/englishs/computing/statistics) usually followed by presentations & more tests.

Not that I think hard work is any great virtue by any stretch of the imagination - give me one lazy decent person over one motivated scum-bag any day of the week (as this thread has almost descended into "LOOK AT HOW HARD I WORK RESPECT ME BRO".

Had a month out of work after moving back down south from Scotland, apart from that I've worked solid since leaving school around 7 years ago.

The month I was unemployed was horrible, job searching like mad for the first two weeks, then a couple of weeks of just sitting around bored waiting to start my new job...

left school in 1979 worked all my life (31yrs working 6 days aweek,) out of the 31yrs only had 4 weeks off due sickness. untill 3yrs ago due to medical problems that the nhs cocked upon, only had 3 different jobs in that time paid all my tax's and insurance to date

and now according to this government am a dole scrounger!

Started full time work when I left college at 18, and have been in full time employment continuously since, which is 15 years, other than 4 months out of work. Even then I did agency work in residential children's homes.

started a full time apprenticeship on a heidelberg quickmaster at the age of 15. finished that after 4 years. got promptly made redundant :p

spent the next 6 months in a co-op food store

finally got into a computer retail job for 4 years.

now im in my dream job running two digital presses. happy days.

Did two weeks of solid interviews mostly 2 per day when I got back from uni and got a job by the end of it. Started working before graduation (nothing like taking time off in your first week for graduation xD) and been there since which was 4 years ago.

Worked part time aged 15-18, then a year of full time, moved to Edinburgh for uni for 2 years, then a year in China doing part time tutoring with my studies, then two more years back in Edinburgh working part/full time in bars. Left my last job in July last year, and only done odd jobs, tutoring, quizzes and occasional bar work since being in Taiwan. Had a demo at a school two days ago though, hoping to get back in to work, as I don't like not having any sort of routine.

Joined the Merchant Navy in 1980 as a deck cadet. Worked ever since for the same company - 33 years. Never had a any time off until last year when I had six months sick time with a broken arm.

I am worried for today's youth as decline of all traditional industries in the UK has not left many opportunities. My 22 yr old graduate stepson is struggling to find work which is a big worry for me.

I joined the Armed forces at 16 straight from school. When I left I ended up working a few different jobs almost all of them outdoors related for a short time and have currently just completed my 23rd year in the Fire & Rescue Service as a crew commander. It's not particularly well paid but I'm not really in it for the cash. :)

So yes, I've worked hard my entire life. When I left the military I was briefly for a few weeks, 'on the dole' as it was known back then and I found it a very unpleasant experience 'signing on' every week and picking up my benefit cheque.

started work straight after school. think ive been out of work maybe a week but didnt sign on, just found another job straight away..

gone are those jobs

Had a paper round as soon as i was old enough, then bar work/fast food places, and then into a full time job :)
