hi got one on these coolers coming and looking to change the fan on it, but not sure which ones to go for, i was thinking of using a akasa viper as i already have one. also is it worth sticking 2 fans on it.
Thanks

I had a kuhler 620 with an Akasa Apache fan - when I changed it over to a Gentle Typhoon 1850rpm, I did notice it was on average 2C cooler. It was only 1 fan in a push configuration.

I'd say get yourself an GT 1850rpm :)

thanks mate for the infomaition, also could u tell me the best place to position it in my case i have a cooler master 690 nvidia edition Thanks

Most people would tend to put it as the rear exhaust (pictured), that seems to work well. It's what I did when I stuck it into my Corsair 600T.

By the way: When you get your Kuhler 920, the installation instructions aren't very good. Luckily I saw this video before installing it:

I know the video shown is for a kuhler 620, but the mounting system is the same for the 920. A quick search for a 920 installation video on youtube doesn't yield great results (or better than this video!), but I'm sure someone here might find a better one :p

+1 for the GT fan, i've got two Apache blacks on my 920 but only because the GT's were 3 pin and I wanted PWM fans, the vipers are 4pin but for that yukky yellow colour.

I'd recommend two fans in push pull as this will get temps even lower. Enjoy your new cooler dude.

I got Vipers for my H50 a year ago, but despite moving a huge amount of air, I found they were too loud - For me Apache Blacks are the best compromise of quiet but with very good air movement.

I'm interested in using a Kuhler in my next build, but am concerned by a review on Silent PC about noise.

I sit next to my PC for hours and hours a day (I work from home). Noise is a major gripe of mine.

I'm currently using a True 120 black with an Apache PWM. That's pretty quiet.

Had a couple of Akasa Apaches on my Antec Kuhler 620. Ran as exhuast installed on the rear of my case. Was totally silent at idle and the pump was also very quiet. Didn't hear any buzzing unless side panel was removed and my ear right upto the cooler. Performance was OK too, slightly better than a Titan Fenrir/

I've got one in my build at the moment and that buzzing noise was a pain to be around (I think I must be super sensitive to noise :D).

Anyway, despite peoples warnings, I opted to limit the voltage being supplied to my unit's pump in my bios to 75%, which equated to a drop from ~1200RPM to ~1000RPM, and at this speed the higher pitched noises of the pump went away.

I've had it running like this since January and I haven't noticed any issues or performance decrease with it on my overclocked i7.

As for fans, I'm also running it with some Apache's installed (the awful green and brown coloured ones) and at 90% speed (around 1000RPM, 300RPM short of their max), they're nearly inaudible and my temps never exceed the 60's while gaming. At 100% speed, they do make a bit of noise, but It's more of a calm woosh of air than anything else; a perfectly reasonable amount of noise, but as I'd hinted at before, even the slightest out of place sound will bother me :).

Hi Coldfused..

Just a quick question...

I have the Kuhler 620 and have changed the original fan with a Gentle Typhoon 1850rpm ..

The problem I am having is that for love nor money does the fan speed change... Its constantly stuck on 1450rpm, either idle or doing intensive tasks...

I have the fan plugged into the connector from the rad and then the pump connector directly to the cpu header fan...

Would be much appreciated if you have any information on this problem....

P.S. Im thinking if adding another GT 1850 to it to have a push / pull configuration...

Thanks m8 and hear from you soon..

Best Wishes

Kingy

Hey Kingy,
Since the cooler is plugged into the CPU fan header, I think the only way to change the fan speed is by controlling it from the BIOS, but I'm not sure if that will affect the speed of the pump.

Alternatively, you can plug the fan into your SYS FAN header and manage that independently to the rest of the Kuhler. Assuming your using the motherboard in your signature, I've highlighted the SYS FAN on the documentation you received with your motherboard.

Give that a try and let me know how you get on :)

Hi m8... sorry i havnt been back in touch... I did what you said and now I have my fan splitter with the 2 gt scythes 1850s plugged into the sys fan header and the pump going to the cpu header...
Touch wood everything seems ok and fans are now running at 1850 (Well just under, summat like 1790rpm)
Thanks for the solution m8..

This x infinity. Nothing beats a GT 1850 RPM. Slap two of them in your system push/pull.
