I only just noticed this new Wii U console that been released in my one my local stores a few days ago..

As title is this new console more powerful then the xbox360 & PS3 ??
Or is it just another very low spec console released by from Nintendo

I noticed that there a very very long thread for this console in here but I don't really feel like reading through 1700+ posts to try and found the answer)

Yes it is more powerful than both consoles but not by much.

Basically yes slightly.
Weighs up like this

CPU slightly slower than both
GPU is a GPGPU and can do physics processing (Which is why the CPU is of slightly lower importance than normal.)
Aside from that it has on chip 32mb of edram on the GPU which no other current console has.
And the bus between the GPU and CPU is uber quick
It has more than double the ram of both also.

All in all weighing up to be slightly more powerful

To me when it is

A)
Is small and pretty silent

B)
Uses a Proprietory disc drive

C)
Has 32GB of Solid state memory

D)
Has a controller with NFC, Front facing camera, 6inch touch screen which is of pretty good detail, and all the gyroscope stuff built in AND can control your tv and STB

E)
Comes with loads of Accessories and a Game

F)
Despite what everyone is saying has a pretty cool web browser and an AWESOME youtube app

I actually dont find it that expensive when you compare it to a 360 which is something only
something like 100 less but has no games with it and is at the end of its life cycle.

People also seem to miss out the fact that it is also compressing real time video and wirelessly transmitting said video to a controller which was tested and STILL had less input lag than 99.9% of LCD tvs

No mean feat.

It's got more power but none of the games I've played look better than the best looking 360/PS3 titles.

The future release line up is very thin at the moment and after playing Mario U and ZombiU I haven't used mine in weeks.

I wouldn't recommend buying one at the moment, I'd be surprised if the price doesn't come down or you see some better bundles in the coming months once a few more games come out. The 360/PS3 are definitely near the end of their lives but still have a busier release schedule and I'd wait for more details on their successors before stumping up for a Wii U unless you absolutely have to play the exclusive titles like Zelda (sadly I fall in this category so will keep mine even though it's not being used).

Eliot is a big fan of all things Nintendo and as much as I agree there is some impressive hardware offered, I don't feel it has really translated to a "better" gaming experience so far. Having the screen on the pad is cool and some games (Black Ops 2 for split screen and Mario for playing on the pad) make good use of it but once you get past the novelty factor I prefer playing on my HDTV.

Also, the premium model is pretty much an essential purchase and I think Nintendo have been greedy/foolish by expecting people to buy Wiimotes/Nunchuks/USB drives on top of what is already a big purchase.

I am a Nintendo fan,
In that I love Zelda.
However all things nintendo? Not really,
Dont have a 3DS, only had a Dslite because my ex bought me one.
Granted I have followed all the main hardware releases, but I am also very impartial and honest my purchases in a non fanboy way, I have been this generation a big fan of the 360.
Because I like games to th extent where I think the controller on the 360 is borderline perfect and the PS3 one is utter garbage.
This doesnt mean i wont end up with a PS4, When it comes to those I will judge them on their own merits.
I actually hated the sound of the 360 right up until I tried one a month before they were out and i was sold purely on the pad and preordered immediately.

What I'm getting at is, If somethings **** i will say.

IMO the current 360 OS (Metro or whatever you want to call it is awful)
However I love windows 8.
The current 360 software is just a absolute hash of a mess and you cant find ANYTHING anywhere near as quick as you could before when it was the "New Dashboard"

Also the fact all the apps update independantly is just SO SO annoying,.
I want to watch sky and BOOM
Update
want to skip that update?
NA BRA you need it right now.

By contrast on the Wii U app and game update are downloaded automatically without me even knowing until its install time.
Dont want that newest youtube update?

Well thats no problem as you can till use it anyway..

The point im getting at is that i genuinely feel this is perhaps the most "Anti-Fanboyed" Console launch I have ever experienced.

The OS issues are not even slightly as bad as you will read.
Miiverse is for me a far better, feature or app or social experience (Whatever), than anything of a similar in the last gen and is ultimately going to be ripped off by both MS and Sony and called a masterpiece at E3 with various fat americans standing infront of presentation screens talking about "Innovation".
The Web browser works very well incomparison to anyother browser i've used on a smart tv/ phone/console.
The youtube app is fantastic.

I can honestly say i've never been happier with a console purchase as it has vast potential to be fun.
The graphics steps are going to get smaller and smaller anyway and i cant see me being "Wowed" at the vast power of the PS4 and XBOX whatever the hell at e3 to be honest..

All the Wii U needs is games that are developed for the hardware (Most of the launch games are very quickly done ports and run very well all things considered) and im willing to wait seeing as imo the game available at launch are about 3x better than the launch games (or fix 6 months) for either the 360 or PS3. People seem to look back at the 360 launch games with some weird glasses of a slightly pinkish hue.
In reality there was one decent game (PGR 3) and nothing else until march 6 months later when GRAW and fight night came out.

Comparing them to launch games on 360 and PS3 would make more sense. Wii U games will get better just as 360 and PS3 games got better as developers got to grips with it and got the most from them.

More power does not just mean better graphics anyway. Also not sure why Nintendo are being greedy or foolish to expect people to buy 2nd controllers if they want to play local multiplayer, not like MS or Sony give you 2 pads do they?

As above.
The point is it appears with this launch normal rules of hate giving dont apply..

I refer back to my most "anti fanboyed" launch ever comment.
Few examples

Nintendo:
Nintendo allows you to download previous wii vc purchases on wii u
As an aside also annouces new Wii U VC with features such as Upscaling and Miiverse intergation, therefore lots and LOTS of development, They inform you at the same time that if you have the wii VC game you can upgrade for 10% of the total cost the Wii U VC game (With loads of new features) will sell for. At the same time the CEO of the company tells you you can go buy them on the Wii VC now so you can upgrade for cheap later if you want.
They then continue buy offering first 10 Wii U VC games for 30p

People:
Winge about having to pay for their games again, INternet rage ensues (They dont)

Case number 2:

Hotukdeals users post up deals which are genuinely cheap not only for a new console but are cheaper than 360/ps3 counterparts

People:
Vote them cold
Seriously, go to HUKD and search "Wii U"
I swear EVERY deal is gold

Case 3:

Everyone wants new Zelda game

Nintendo announce a complete remake (This aint no HD collection version here) of imo THE best Zelda game
And all new one that dumps conceptions like single player and ordering the dungeons (great news imo)

People;
Winge about there being a remake of a zelda game, even though 5 minutes ago there were 0 zelda games annouced and now there were 2.

The game that shows the extra power of the Wii U for me is Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed.

I've played the demos on both Wii U and 360 and it looks quite a bit better to me on Wii U. Better frame rate and clearer graphics. It's not night and day better but it's better.
Plus you can play local multiplayer with TV versus controller.

I have now bought the Wii U version and love it.

Really? Mine isnt :/
I have a original style elite 360 however.
And also all the comparisons i did were with the premium version of the wii u including price.
The basic one is a waste of money when the premium gives you so much more for so little extra

Oh yeah the disc drive is still a disc drive at the end of the day.
Id say the 360 drive is louder for me

My wii u makes almost no noise when not loading though

You might want to get your eyes checked btw, as per digital foundry the Wii U version of Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed has the lowest resolution, so not sure where clearer graphics are coming from.

PS3: 1280x720
360: 1152x544
Wii U: 1024x576

My eyes are fine thanks.
I say it as I see it. Not going to argue with Eurogamer, btw, I had read that article.
Perhaps it's the framerate, clearer textures or lack of screen tear but to me it was clearer.
Plus the local multiplayer make it the best version for me.

You make that Digital Foundry review sound negative on Wii U when it clearly wasn't.

Got all consoles so no agenda here unlike in some quarters...;)
