Hi all!

At the end of December I cancelled my Sky+HD/weekend Phone/BB unlimited account, all closed now. This was due to an upcoming, but at the time unconfirmed, move. This move is now on the cards, in fact we’ll be in at the weekend. The new place is already wired for Sky with a communal dish in the building.

We still have our Sky+HD box and router (although it isn’t a fancy ‘hub’ like they now offer).

I think we were paying £56 a month for Sky+ HD ents pack, BB Unlimited and Evening and weekend calls (and line rental). Ideally I’d like to go back on the same package but I feel like we should be getting a cheaper deal because we still have all the equipment?

I have phoned them and received some conflicting advice before giving up and looking online and writing this post.

On the phone, one person said they could reinstate our account, a second on the shared dwellings move team (or something) said we’d be better off coming on as a new customer.
A quick look on their website would seem to back the second view, we can get the same package as before with a new box/hub and free setup for £48pcm for the first 6months, rising to £54 thereafter inc. line rental.

Does this sound like the best deal and are there any unforeseen issues with getting a brand new account?

If I can save some monthly cost somewhere due to already having a box/router I’d like to.

Cheers.

Keep an eye out for codes in the next few days...

50% off is the reason why me and my missus bounce our name registering as new user to Sky yearly.

Also, they do email you from time to time after leaving them with 50% code or a number to phone them (or they call you) to let you know you can have this that and all for 50% cheaper.

This, when did you actually cancel it? Mine went off Christmas Day and just got a 50% off offer through last week, So it's back on now but I'm not tied to 12 months contract.

Thanks for this, but how did you go about cancelling - do you need to wait for the 30 days before your missus joins else Sky would see a contract at your address?

Thanks

Last time I did it, I was on the phone to them 2 weeks before my contract ends, stating that I'm moving away to a share house, no need for Sky. Confirmed with them to cancel the day my contract ends.

When we got the letter to confirm, my missus phone them up and claimed she's moving into the address 2 days after my contract ends. As a new customer, gave details and codes, done. Only problem we encountered was no Sky for a week due to arranging for their engineer to visit.

New sky box, card e.t.c. Sold my old box for a few quid. Doing that again this May/June time. A family friend have done that repeatedly, his excuse was going for a year long trip every other year!

Great, thanks for letting me know. I'm about to move my phone and broadband from Sky, so it gets that out of the equation (and cheaper too), so I'll do the same.

Just out of interest, does your missus have your same surname? We're not in this position, but was wondering if they'd twig onto what was happening!

Nope, not married yet.

Plus, plenty of Jones, just blag the coincidence card. On one note, we did move house so this summer when it's my turn again, I'll just blag it if they ask me why I'm back. They're more interested in getting my business than questioning.

I went back to sky recently and they offered me 50% off for the year (TV package)

Also I took out Sky fibre + line rental £34.

Give them a call and they'll do you a deal.

This really works?

What's the catch?

Yup, I moved back in September, got over £100 from Sky for a fresh sign up and £75 from BT for a new account.

BT also sent me £50 in Sainsburys store cards with no catches, just use them like cash. Sky sent me a £25 M&S voucher. Basically my first 4 months rental on both has been for free.

I use topcashback and quidco all the time, last year I had more than £200 from Quidco and close to £300 from TCB.

Just be sure not to use stores only found on these sites, often you can get something cheaper elsewhere even after the cashback is taken into account.

Also with Quidco you can register your payment cards and automatically get cashback when you pay in certain stores.

I'm 95% sure yes. Our last flat only had the one socket which was annoying but we made do.

Be wary of cashback then, T+C's sometimes state that cashback won't be paid out if its a communal installation.

And keep yuer Eyes peeled on Monday for the 50% off codes from MSE.
I'd also, just to be safe get the sky in someone elses name just in case they
refuse the offer on the basis you had sky recently.

Nards!

Just tried the cashback thing. Oh well.

I used that to get 50% off sky sports for three months.

When I phoned to book it I also told the guy down the phone that I didn't want it and to make sure it was cancelled which he wouldn't do so I hung up redialed and told the next CS that I was cancelling the package and she confirmed cancellation after the three months.

The cancellation thing is a MINIMUM of 30 days before there is no maximum :D
