Prostitution - your stance

Like most I think it should be legal, though the workers should be regulated and licensed. You can't stop it so might as well make it safe as you possibly can. Not that I even think you should stop it if you could, it's their choice and people should keep their noses out.

Not sure I'd ever be willing to partake myself, but I wouldn't really look down on those who would.

It's legal here and in fact if you can even look in the midweek paper that gets delivered free in town you will find ladies advertising their services in the classified section at the back (freeads) haha.

Without going looking for it you would never know it is legal, so it isn't an issue really. You don't get curb crawlers everywhere as the brothels in town are just like night clubs inside (have never been, but a mate uses them). I suppose it is better being legalised so that the women have somewhere safe as you will never get rid of it no matter how illegal it is made.

Holy thread resurrection, Batman!

As I originally said, a couple of friends have no qualms about it, one is still quite open about the fact that he uses these "complimentary services". He's divorced though and given his history, I can understand his angle.

As much as I think it makes sense, and as much as I joke about it, I'd struggle not to feel terrible after doing the deed and handing over a wad of cash.

An interesting story recently was the one where sex workers were being taken into a care home for disabled residents. They have needs like anyone else I guess so thinking a bit more about it, if someone's willing to provide the service, then fine.

The only think I cringe at is the idea of women prostituting themselves because of desperate circumstances and seeing no alternative.

Lol hardly a thread resurrection from page 2 :D I am on NZ time so only just catching up on the past 24hrs haha

EDIT: OH, just noticed the OP was from 2012! No idea why the guy from the last page posted in it or what he was searching for :O

Providing the person providing the services is there by their own accord then there is nothing wrong with it.

There isn't a single, reasonable, argument that counters this.
I beg to differ.

Own accord is subjective, by that logic it's perfectly morally fine to offer food to a starving women in exchange for sex.

Poverty can cause people to betray principles or personal moral lines which in turn have a detrimental impact on the person - it's also well documented the problems related to the commodification of people, turn people into products - this erodes empathy & is linked to all kinds of social problems.

If we lived in a society without poverty & perfect equality of opportunity (A true meritocracy) then I really wouldn't care - but as we clearly don't I don't believe it's morally sound to exploit the economically poor for personal sexual gratification.

My objection isn't based my some view on "rightness" or "wrongness", or any views on the sanctity of the monster mash.

Time it was legalised, taxed & safer for the girls.

I had friend many years ago, put her two kids through private school, from the age of four to eighteen, solely from her earnings, & her husband never knew.

Prostitution in the UK is NOT Illegal.
You can have 2 women + maid working in a house, and they are not breaking any law.

Google it if you want more info about the law.

When the world is shades of grey...go somewhere where its clearer to see why things are wrong. I was in the Philippines recently and the poverty there is quite bad. Women are very forward and you can never tell whether - does she like me or is she really a prostitute OR is she working another scam e.g. for money. (scam is quite common in the Phillipines)

At the end of the day its a job and if they choose it without any kind of negative coercion then OK fair dos.

If however they are there not through choice but through necessity of survival then i dunno. I saw a fair few old white guys with young filipino women and its pretty clear they were prostitutes.

What kind of person - sees someone in a really desperate position in life and makes a deal that exploits that other person's dignity. That is, the wealthy person takes advantage of the poor person/woman etc. When really they should be helping them not exploiting them. Its a vicious circle. The guy paying for services could say they are giving the poor women money to survive. Maybe survive yes - but Live no.

Prostitution is awesome when you're wasted with a spare £40.

It's morally wrong and disgusting in any kind of mindset which is in anyway sober.
