The obvious gangnam video has got me interested in the place. Is it worth going to, any OCuker been? Am I missing anything, or is it just a bloody good youtube vid?

I've heard good things. Like a 'young' version of it's neighbor to the sea, Japan. Just don't say that to them because they, the Japanese, and the Chinese still (at a basic nationalistic level) pretty much hate each other.

Its interesting place to visit, but only spent a week there. Went to the DMZ + tunnel and loads of wondering around Seoul. They still play starcraft brood wars in internet cafes, tasty sushi, cab drivers don't really understand (or dont want anything to do with) speaking english so better get directions in korean! Massive shopping centres with fast plastic surgery :p. Also Kimchi is epic there!

Never ever cross a South Korean. They will dedicate their life to enacting the most elaborate and improbable revenge possible. Often taking decades to carry out.

If you are female, watch out for the rapist octopus men.

(My opinions may or may not have been influenced by South Korean cinema).

Hahaha, excellent.

Definately checkout the DMZ. I think you need to book it quite far in advanced from the south but its a pretty intense place to see.

They have an incredible gaming scene. Isn't StarCraft II the national sport?

I stayed with a guy from Seoul when I was snowboarding, I was disappointed he didn't play :p.
Its still massive over there, he said that the pro-gamers over there are major celebrities.

One thing to not about south Korea is that they are still sort of at war with the north. Because of this national service is still in place for all men.

Spent a day docked in Ulsan dealing with shoreside people there, and they all seemed pleasant enough, then flew home through Seoul and Incheon. My impression of the South Koreans were that they were pleasant enough people, far more so that the Japanese in my experience.
