360 not working with my laptop hard drive?

I have laptop hard drive at home,.think its a 120GB, off the top of me head. Any way have installed it and its not showing on my Xbox elite.

Do I need to format it or something to work?

You can't just put any HDD in an xbox like you can on a PS3.

I was going to mention that but I don't think it's really worth it now that the official drives are much cheaper and bigger.
