Time to buy gaming laptop :)

About to press the buy button on the following spec laptop:

17.3" matte screen
i7-3840QM CPU
16 GB Samsung 1600MHz RAM
2 x 7970 GPU's
240 GB Kingston HyperX 3K
750 GB WD Scorpio Black OR 750 GB Seagate Momentus XT (can't decide. Opinions???)
mSATA???? (not sure whether to include one, opinions?????)
6x Bluray writer
Gigabit LAN Intel Ultimate-N 6300 OR Gigabit LAN & Killer 1202 OR Killer 1103 (opinions???)

This is all based around the Clevo chassis.

The laptop wil be used for gaming, BF3, COD etc.. and for video editing, encoding and burning to Bluray discs.

Should I go for the Momentus XT instead of the Scorpio Black HDD?

Not used mSATA before, would I benefit from having it fitted or would it be a waste with the rest of the spec?

How good is the Intel Ultimate-N? Should I swap that for a Gigabit LAN & Killer 1202 or 1103???

if you are going with the 240gb ssd, no need to bother with an msata (they are actually slower anyway)

not sure on the momentus or scorpio

the ultimate N is a great card though

I have the same chassis laptop, I opted to fit the mSATA, depends how important more SSD storage is to you, and whether you plan on storing your games on SSD or the hard disk.

Thanks for your replies. I ended up with the above spec with:

No mSata
Gigabit LAN & Killer 1103
Momentus XT (2nd storage drive)

Can't wait for it to arrive lol.

Will let you know when it arrives either by the end of this week or the start of next.

Not replacing my desktops, this is for when i'm away from home. I occasionally spend a couple of months at a time away from home with work.

Well its taken longer than I thought but my laptop has finally been built. It is now in the testing phase so should be with me at some point next week

Is this a Vortex III?

I just received a 15" version and it's AWESOME! Wishing I'd gone for a 240Gb SSD rather than a 120Gb SSD already though! Silly me!

I know that 15" at home when required could always be connected to the external screen but..... damn
1080p on 15 isn't a killer ? I mean pixels packet up so tight make the text probably in some game chats really small...

I was in the same boat and I'm extremely happy I went for the 15". I've not noticed text being too small in games. I was playing some BF3, Skyrim, Sleeping Dogs, and Just Cause 2 last night and didn't ever feel the screen was too small, or text was too cramped.

I feel like a 17" would be way too big for me. But each to their own, don't go for the 15" just because of what I have said

Of course not

My wife has 17 inch so its easy to check how it feels - you would think so - but the screen is not 1080p :/
On the other hand good luck finding a high street shops where you can go and check 15" 1080p with screens
By the time I will select hanswell will be here and new game will start lol

Appearance, keyboard (MAJOR factor), faith in dell (I have dropped a laptop down the stairs, had a friend throw the same laptop at a wall and its still kicking, I do not have this faith what so ever from Clevo), screen quality and I am crazy.

After getting my M17x, I am more than pleased, maybe a few years down the road I'll be kicking myself but I'monly 18 and have more than enough years

to get some money together
