According to a Japanese news source, the next-generation PlayStation 4 going to come in around $400.

A local newspaper made the claim that Sony had set the price internally above 40,000. This figure would roughly be about $430 at the current exchange rate.

Despite the claim from the newspaper, there are no official figures to support this. The price is rumored to be coming in around $399, but given the recent specifications of the PS4, a $400 price point would most likely mean that the console would be sold at a loss.

Sony's next-generation console will utilize the Gaikai cloud technology that Sony had purchased last year.

That really not bad a price,It only about the cost of a single GTX 680
So is still going be far far cheaper then building a highend gaming PC

Just need to hope the PS4 going be high spec and not something like the new Nintendo Wii fail console..

In japan maybe, shipping costs and what not I'd expect $500, but lets be honest that's about £300 which is incredibly good for a brand new primary release console. Also, you should quote your source so we can see if this is actually news or just speculation and rumours.

I wouldn't be surprised if these consoles launched for £400ish mainly because consumers are more willing to part with £400ish for gadgets (iPad, smartphones etc). And to mass market the next-gen consoles will be advertised as entertainment hubs therefore worth the extra £ over a standard console.

Cheaper the better as always but I wouldn't go expect them to be too cheap even with their rumored more traditional CPU/GPU architecture!
