Been reading this thread about dslr cameras not selling well as expected http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18486720 which leads me to a few questions and perhaps a poll please mods.

What device do you mainly use for taking photo's ?

1.DSLR
2.Compact
3.Phone.

I personally use my dslr all the time when im out, always take a small rucksack with me and just shove the camera in there,i have probably taken less than 20 photo's on my phone in the last year.

If im going out all day then ill take my camera bag with all the lens's.

So,how important is it to you for a good quality photo ?

I know camera phones have come a long way in recent years and some do take cracking photo's.

The same can be said for a compact camera, with there small size and massive mp.

So,what do you use most of the time and why ?

99% phone
Ruggedised compact on Holliday or weddings etc.

But I don't take many proper pics, so not particularly bothered how good the photos are for the cuisine forum and the what you purchased this month forum.

For hollidays, size, waterproof (snorkelling), sand proof is the most important.

90% Phone, 10% DSLR.

The picture quality of the iPhone 5/Galaxy S III/etc is more than adequate for the vast majority of pictures I need to take.

For every day use I use the camera on my phone, but if I'm out hiking or somewhere special I'll take my compact. I've just sold my old Canon S95 and upgraded to the Sony RX100, awesome little compact with much better quality and features than my phone. I'd love a DSLR but lugging it around everywhere would be a pain so I settled on the compromise of the RX100.

Depends on a lot of factors:

What is the purpose of it
Which ever is closest to hand
What is the lighting like and how do I want it lit
Who is it for

Look at everything i've taken, statistically, it would be like 90% DSLR, 5% compact and 5% phone.

But in day to day, I would use the phone because I would have that on me all the time.

Generally iphone 5, but if doing proper nights out or holidays I will take my compact (lumix FT1) because low light on phone is still rubbish
