As soon as anyone questions the ops reasons for owning a performance car on a tiny island with a blanket 30 limit he gets very stroppy and throws his toys.
it is quite possibly the worst car, bar a dpf diesel, to own on a island with a 30 limit.

What's "harmless" pre-ignition? And what's the difference between it and normal pre-ignition?

Bit late to the discussion, but the parents own an '08 Toyota Corolla Compressor (the Toyota Team Europe fettled and supercharged version of the T-Sport). They have a few bottles of octane booster in the boot for when they go camping in the Scottish Highlands and so on where V-Power and others of that ilk are sometimes unavailable. For their car it is needed, as the ECU has been set up (by TTE) to use the higher RON petrol. As far as I know, it can use 95, but it really does not like it and WILL go into limp home mode, and generally have a right old grumble about it. And driving from the Scottish Highlands down back home to Lancashire in limp home mode is not their idea of fun.
Obviously for the OP, buying booster all the time would be far too expensive. Maybe get a crapbox of a car to use on the island and then bring out the S2000 whenever you go to the mainland? And keep a couple of petrol containers of SUL to the side in case you ever need to bring the fuel level up a bit before you set off anywhere in the S2K.

There are plenty affected in the channel islands as there are a lot of owners who go to the uk or france to do track days, plus there are a lot of local motorsport events held on the islands.
I can't run mine on 95 ron without it knocking so no choice for me, got to fight to keep it.

Supercharged civic type r, tuned at cpl racing in kent, go to france a fair bit, and track days so gets used as it is supposed to, it is still a daily though so need the SUL fuel, stupid decision as the jersey rally will be severely affected and the other events that go ahead.
Wondered if the op would join the FB group and help keep the fuel supplied.

I filled up with 95 Ron for the first time in a long time (usually use BP Ultimate as I get 6p off a litre)

One reduces power as the timing is slightly early due to 95ron flame propagation being faster. The other is uncontrolled pre ignition when the heat/ pressure rise causes the pistons to be damaged.
A knock sensor will pick up on both events.
Thanks the help will email him, he may know more people so worth letting him know.
We have about 1500 people together already, there is a meeting going ahead today with the fuel supplier to see what is going on.
