Any fishermen here?

any rock fishermen? ive really taken to Light rick fishing with lures and am using completely the wrong set up, so I have got myself a really small 7 foot Light rock fishing rod 7-40g weighted, was wondering if anyone in here would suggest a reel for me? anything in the £50-70 range would be great.

cheers.

Wouldn't spend much on a reel for fishing mainly off rocks as it will get completely knackered in no time from being dropped etc., just get something that's made for salt water and will reel in fast, I use multipliers as I find them a lot tougher that fixed spools, they're also a lot smaller and lighter but you need to learn how to cast with them and they can be a royal PITA until you get the knack.

Also, if you're not using it then give braid a go, it's much better on rocky bottoms as it's smaller diameter and far tougher against nicks and scrapes Vs. the rocks than mono, it also gives much better bite detection for spinning as there's hardly any line stretch, but don't go too wild on the breaking strain as you'll regret it fast if you snag.

Cheers for that, yes I'm using spiderwire braid, I've only have a few wind knots, but I learnt fast.

I think may rod is meant to have a fixed spool as the eyelets are on the underside of the rod. So the spine is designed that it bends that way right? Or am I completely wrong?

Shouldn't really matter as you can use a multiplier on any rod but you can't use a fixed-spool on high-end beachcasters which will all be set up to take multipliers, you would just use the rod normally and just flip it over to reel in, only thing is, you'd be better 'trying' someone else's multiplier before buying one as they are definitely not for everyone, but it's a catch-22 as no-one will lend you one as you'll crows nest it until you get the knack of it (You'll still crows nest it occasionally from the wind taking line and any crack off is guaranteed to get the scissors out too..)

TBH the only time I have trouble is if I'm fishing at night when it's windy (You have to guess/predict when the cast hits the water to stop the spool with your thumb and pitch blackness and line wind-shear really doesn't help) so if I'm out at night I always take a fixed-spool as a back-up spare.

I go fishing twice a month in winter and 4-8 times a month in summer.

I mainly fish for carp but do sometimes enter matches and even do a little sea fishing.

The best way to get into fishing is go to your local tackle shop and have a chat about clubs ect as local knowledge is invaluable when it comes to getting some fish on the end of that wet line.

Just started leisure/carp fishing again. Not the best time of year but hey ho!

haha can remember one night fishing jaunt at sapphire lakes newark in january

it was -13 at 2 in morning i sat in bivvy thinking wtf am i doing here :D

a nice low profile baitcaster will suit you well with a rod like that, something like this http://www.lureheaven.co.uk/spinning-lure-fishing-shop/abu-garcia-blue-max-baitcaster-reels.html
